Not every guy wearing a 1%er patch is a criminal. Actually the opposite is true. Just as there are bad cops, politicians and regular people there are bad guys in 1% clubs. Most of us are normal guys. Unless you do something really stupid like wearing a 1%er patch that you have not earned. Or for example walk up to one and say something like "so you think you're tough" you're not going to have any problems. What you don't realize is that there are allot of rules in the 1% world. As an outsider they don't apply to you in general. The best advise I can give you is to just leave guys and their old ladies alone. Trust me they will leave you alone. As to wearing the 1%er patch. It's earned and it has nothing to do with any criminal activity. If you saw a guy wearing one he is not a prospect or probate. He is a patched member of the club period. There are allot of misconceptions out there as to what various patches mean. I'm not going to get into that other then to tell you most of them are wrong. The misconception that we are all selling meth, guns and hookers is just plain wrong. Has that stuff happened? Ya it has in the 60's - 90's things were allot different. Just as you find pedophile cops and coaches out there we have our share of bad apples. If someone decides to make bad decisions it better not involve the club. If it does there will be consequences for that person. Once again the best advice I can give you is to not pre judge and just leave em alone. Just as the masons and other groups have their secrets so do 1%er clubs. Just because they don't tell you what they are doesn't mean that they are illegal. How do I know you ask? I'm a 1%er. And for god sakes don't believe everything you see on tv or Internet.

Every time I see guys state that none of us have jobs etc etc I laugh. Clearly they have no idea how expensive it is to be in a club. The funny thing is we do extensive background checks on guys to make sure they have a real job and are who they say they are. If a guy has a $200k house and no income it sets off all kinds of alarms. Not a guy we want around. It's not worth the hassle to have guys around who are doing illegal stuff. It screws all of us not just the ****** bag doing it. We vigorously get rid of these guys for that very reason. I'm not going to pretend that all 1%er,s are saints, they aren't. For the most part they are regular guys with jobs, families and believe it or not educations. I personally hold a masters degree in history. If you ever go to sturgis you will notice how few 1%er's you see. The reason is they stay at private campgrounds to avoid the absolute stupidity that goes on in town. I'm sure someone is going to go on the attack and tell you I'm full of guff. I'm not. I know what I'm talking about I'm in a 1%er club (don't ask I'm not going to tell you which one). Remember to make your own decision on what they are. Don't let some jerk that knows even less then you do about it tell you what to believe. Remember that sensationalism sells. If they don't know the truth they make it up, the worse the better. Gangland is a great example of this. When they asked us for interviews for the program we told them to piss off. So they filled in with actors with their "identities" concealed. If it wasn't so stupid it would be funny. Anyway I hope everyone has a great Christmas and new years! Yes I said Christmas........one thing we most certainly are not is politically correct!

For the record wives and girlfriends are not "passed around". If you see a property buckle or proud old lady shirt it denotes that it's someone's wife or serious girlfriend. In other words leave her alone she's a brothers gal. If she's in trouble or being hassled you are obligated to help her. On the other side of the coin there are hang arounds that are just like badge collectors in the law enforcement community. Ask your cop buddies they will start laughing if they are honest.

Hells Angel biker found guilty in Rock Hill stabbing

    ROCK HILL, SC --

A member of the Hells Angels motorcycle club was convicted last week of stabbing a member of another motorcycle club in Rock Hill.

A York County jury found William “Spook” Sosebee, 58, of Rock Hill guilty of attempted armed robbery, kidnapping, possession of a knife during a violent crime and first-degree assault and battery, according to a news release from the 16th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
Judge John C. Hayes sentenced Sosebee to 10 years in prison with no parole.

Sosebee was accused of stabbing Jim Moye of North Carolina at Wall Bangers Social Club on East Main Street. Moye, 58, is a member of Iron Order, another motorcycle club, and had stopped at Wall Bangers, according to the solicitor’s office news release.

Evidence at the trial showed that Moye, who had never been to the bar before, did not know that the Hells Angels considered Wall Bangers “their bar,” the release stated.

After Moye arrived, Sosebee approached him and beat him in the head with the handle of a Bowie knife, according to the solicitor’s office. He then put the knife to Moye’s throat and demanded he hand over his Iron Order motorcycle vest. Moye refused and repeatedly asked to be allowed to leave. Sosebee then stabbed him in the abdomen.

Moye survived after undergoing surgery at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Officers were called to the hospital after the stabbing, but Moye would only say “it was a motorcycle thing,” according to reports.

You haven't clarified anything. You've only said don't believe ALL of the information out there. So what does one actually have to do to earn a 1%er patch?

I'm sure the HA run background checks on new members. Wouldn't want a cop to get in.

Anyone with half a brain can tell you a lot of what these gangs do in public is just PR. Maybe you are too low on the totem pole to really know what is going on. Either you are just trying to spread propaganda or you have swallowed what the Officers of your club have told you hook, line, and sinker.

    GUYS,
I never said it was the Mormon tabernacle choir. It can be an exceptionally rough environment. As I pointed out in an earlier post their are allot of rules that apply to MC's. The Iron Order is not a 1% club. Im sure you noticed at the end of the article the guy said "It's a motorcycle thing". The subtext being he knows he screwed up big time. I respect the fact that he took responsibility for his actions and didn't point the finger. Clearly there is more to that story then was published. The HA is involved in a very ugly disagreement with the Vago's right now. It is between those clubs. Im not going to speculate on what happened in SC I wasn't there. Most guys in MC's know where they shouldn't be. It's no different then any one of you guy's hanging out in a bar in the part of town you shouldn't be in at one in the morning. If you go looking for trouble you're inevitably going to find it. Ducman you made a comment about being too low on the totem poll to know whats going on. You're mistaken. Have you ever noticed when someone doesn't conform to an expectation they automatically aren't high enough in the hierarchy to know whats going on? For example the masons. If someone has decided that the masons are a satanic group that is secretly running the country there is little you can do to convince them otherwise. If a guy is a mason and tells you its not what you (meaning anyone not just you) think it is, the immediate response is "You're just not high enough yet to know". Im telling you we are not the Bildaburgers (forgive my spelling) and this isn't skull and bones type stuff. I'm relatively certain George Nori is not going to do a segment on coast to coast about it (ya I love coast to coast, bigfoot, aliens and shadow people GREAT STUFF!) . The vast majority of us just want to be left alone to ride with our brothers and have a little too much fun every once in a while. Are there guy's doing stuff in the 1%er world that is illegal? Yes there is. Are there cops, lawyers and bankers bilking the American public and doing illegal stuff? Yes there is. I choose to not judge any group as a group. People are people you take em one at a time. There are turds in every segment of society. We strongly believe that personal responsibility for your actions goes hand in hand with freedom. We recently had a group of guys get popped for doing some really stupid stuff. They are now on their own. They are responsible for their own actions. If you want to be a turd thats your choice as a grown man in America. Don't bring it to my house. Don't bring it to the club. It's in the club bylaws (yes we have bylaws) That we don't condone or support ANY illegal activity. Once again it's not your grandmas knitting club but it's not a criminal organization either. Someone mentioned doing back ground checks to keep cops out. You're absolutely right thats part of it. Think of it this way. If I do 120 MPH through a cops jurisdiction he has a legal obligation to stop me right? Do you want to put a guy in that position? Do you want to worry about that when your driving your car with your car club? You guy's cant honestly tell me that you don't occasionally cut loose in your cars. Common whats the point of having one if you cant spool that SOB up once in a while! For the record I used to ride with a lot of cops and they ride allot faster they I ever have in the club. The difference is they have master badge. Right or wrong it's life. People love running on the edge. Unfortunately the 1%er world draws allot of guys that come from the shallow end of the gene pool. Most are weeded out by the prospecting / probate process. For me that process was over 18 months long and involved an incredible time commitment. You want to know what prospecting involves? It's allot like pledging a fraternity (Iv'e done both). Being available to pick guys up that have had too much to drink. Cleaning up the clubhouse. Picking up cigarette butts. Working parties behind the bar etc. Rolling T shirts. Running for booze etc. Picking up guys that have broken down on the side of the road. I will tell you it did not involve anything illegal and thats a fact. You guys get the idea. Im not going to lie it sucks. Its hard work and pushes guys out who are not willing to put others before themselves. If a brother called me right now and said "Hey man Im stuck on the side of the road I need help" I wouldn't hesitate to go help him. There isn't any "sorry guy I'm busy" or "I don't like that guy"or anything like that. YOU GO. Can you honestly say that about your friends? Think about it. I challenge you to call a friend and tell him you need help and your 400 miles away and see what he says. THATS WHAT ITS ABOUT. Not some stupid criminal racket or game. I would caution you to not judge guys. That fireman who is going back into a burning house, that paramedic that is moving heaven and earth to keep your kid alive may just be a 1%er. That doctor that you see every six months may just be a 1%er. We have guys from all walks of life. That being said we have our fair share of turds just like everyone else. As to the occupy wall street crowd? I would love to see them hit by a meteorite, mac truck, insert very heavy object here. Yup you guessed it I'm a republican too.

    Texas!
I worked for the feds in the late '70s. However, my comments actually came from an article in Texas Monthly from back in the day.

Anyone wearing colors in public has already been judged in my book. Like I said, if I see someone wearing colors or tats, I pick up and leave. I don't wanna hang with you guys, and I don't understand those rubbies who do.

Oh, and BTW, be sure to smile because you're probably on candid camera.

    Dale,
Are you implying that anyone with tattoo's is a bad person? If thats the case you're implying that 90% of todays military are people you don't want to hang around with. I guess if thats the way you feel I don't know what else to say. I think you mean anyone with club tattoos but I'm not sure.

When you say smile your on candid camera I think you're referring to the ATF or our government. That would be the same government thats running this country into the ground financially and the ATF thats supplying guns to the mexican cartels right? Are those guys you would hang around with? I can totally understand you being uncomfortable with hanging around with club guy's. We all know that perception is 99% of the game (yes that was intentional LOL). But PLEASE don't lump me in with the ATF or the federal government! I live within my means and treat people fairly.

I'm not sure what to make of the "already been judged in my book" comment. By who? You holding me accountable for someone else's actions is tantamount to me holding you accountable for the ATF sending guns to Mexico because you worked for the federal government at one time. I don't think thats right do you?

Dale I'm sure you're a good guy who pays his taxes and takes care of his family. So am I. I serve my community every day at work and am privileged to have the opportunity to make a difference in peoples lives on good days. I also belong to a 1% MC. The two are not in anyway mutually exclusive. The next time you dial 911 smile because the guy that shows up at your doorstep might be me and you know what Dale? I will take good care of you regardless of your socioeconomic status, color, tattoos or any other prejudices people have. Why? Because its the right thing to do. The best part about it is you won't ever know. Honor is about what you do when no one is watching or knows. Not about the clothes you wear or who you work for.

I respect your right to your opinion Dale. I just don't agree with your thought process. As far as the RUBBIES go......Believe it or not I couldn't agree with you more! I would hope at some level you would see that things change and are not always what you think they are.

    Respectfully 1%er

Hey, I hope you understand I'm not disrespecting you or your club. Like the song says, "When I drink alone, I prefer to drink by myself," I ride solo. When I do ride with buddies, we just agree to meet at such and such place at such and such time. I'm not a very social guy.

However, I'm probably aware of a few things that most are not. (I was actually IRS. I know, I know, I'm still paying for my sins. And yes, the ATF idiots are so dumb they are dangerous.) So when I see you guys in public wearing colors, I turn and go the other way. Right or wrong, there is too much that can go wrong. Not my thing. We cool? :)

PS I shoulda said gang tats.

While your insights into this segment of biker culture (1%ers) have been fascinating, I'm curious as to what led you to FerrariChat. Are you interested in Ferraris and coincidentally found this thread, or did someone tell you about the discussion on this site?

I can't really answer that question honestly! I don't remember. Must be all the cough syrup I drank today........ Im not a big car guy as I can't afford a Ferrari. Believe me when I tell you I sure wouldn't mind borrowing yours though! LOL! It's OK my dad is a TV repair man, he has a *****en set of tools. Im showing my age.

In all seriousness I hate to see all of the old stereo types rolled out when it comes to the clubs. While some of it is unfortunately true in some places it doesn't hold water for most. I love it when I hold a door open for an older couple and they look at me in astonishment. Your welcome sir. I think that the face of the club that most people see is almost a self protection thing. If I appear unapproachable you won't bother me. When the reality is most of us would do anything to help someone in need. I was riding through WY on my way to Sturgis and watched more then a hundred riders pass an old couple broken down on the side of the road. One of those really long stretches of straight road in the middle of nowhere. We were the only guys that stopped and helped that guy change his tire in the 100 degree heat. What does that say about riders in general?

I also like meeting new people with different perspectives on life in general. The more people I talk to the more I understand and learn. I like being held accountable for the things that come out of my mouth and my actions in life. Thats one of the big things about the 1% culture that most people don't understand. You are your own man. You make your own decisions and suffer the consequences of those decisions. There is no blaming someone else for your screw up (i.e. my mommy didn't hold me enough etc.). If you say the wrong thing to someone there is a better then average chance you're going to get your eye dotted. You would be amazed how civil guys become when running your yap has immediate consequences. All of the pretenses and chest beating go away. Guys don't just run off at the mouth.

While Dale and I have profoundly differing views I have respect for his willingness to voice them. It would be disrespectful of me to not listen to what he has to say. I refuse to attack a man for having differing views then my own (working for the IRS is a different matter ;0) ). How can I as a 1%er stand on a soap box and proselytize about respect if I don't afford others respect? Being a thug when its not called for is just dumb. Please don't misunderstand me. I will stand up and fight if it's called for. But thats a last resort. You get what you give. I always try to take the high road. Im not afraid of the low road when its needed. I hope that makes sense.

It's the dumbest show Iv'e ever had the misfortune to watch. Let me put it this way. The walking dead is more based in fact then SOA. SOA feeds the standard stereotype of what people think 1%ers are. While from a comedic stand point it's funny it's done nothing but harm to the actual community.
