348 Belt Change: Is this like loto?

I just got an email from a friend after inquiring about belt changes. He has the highest mileage 348 I know-having put over 118,000 miles on his car. Check this out...

Hope all is well. I do still have
the 348 and I drive it from time to time. Regardless of
what they tell you, on a vehicle you drive often like yours,
the belts will last at least 20-30,000 miles. Mine has done
this many times. My last belt change was at 85K....

I already did a valve job a few years back, not because of the belt but because I bumped it off the rev limiter a few times at Roebling Road coming into the last turn before the long straight (think drop gear). Just thought it was an interesting approach. I have often thought the three year think is for revenue more than anything else.
