The red light between the center vents comes on and stays on while my 1999 Spider is running. It has done this for some time. I have read that most likely the alarm battery is dead. Where is this battery located so that I may replace it? Thanks in advance for the responses!
The battery is inside the alarm siren itself. It is a sealed unit. http://www.ricambiamerica.com/product_info.php?products_id=207296
Thanks for the replies. I did see something earlier while searching for information on the subject that some people have actually opened these units up and just replaced the battery. Does anyone have additional information on doing this? Perhaps what kind of battery it takes?
Is this only on the 5.2 cars? My car is a 95 2.7, I only have a key to open/start the car. Is my car equipped with any kind of antitheft system cause I have no idea?
I'm sure that the Ni-Cad Battery in the alarm unit has died. I had to get a whole new unit because the battery leaked and wiped out the circuit board. More Bosch junk. It's common on these cars. Here's a link. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38676&highlight=alarm
Haven't you already been had the answer last time you asked - see post 14 here http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=141045043#post141045043
have a saab with an alarm unit in that had the same problem. and yes, I just replaced the battery, by taking it apart. new unit was 400 plus. knowing ferrari they probably sealed the thing......
What symptoms can you have from a failed alarm battery?? Will the alarm still sound (mine does)? Will you still be able to arm and disarm the car (mine does with the proper beeps)? Could everything seem normal, but when disarming that car won't start as if it's still armed (this is happening to me)? This morning, I started the car an let it warm up. I backed out of my garage, and coincidentally, when I pressed the button to close my garage door, the car shut off at the exact same moment. I tried to restart, but it just turns over. I tried to arm and disarm, but for a while it wouldn't arm... just lock the doors for a second then unlock the doors with 3 beeps. A few times after the 3 beeps, the alarm would set off, but not with either door, but rather with just one of the doors. Please help! --Nick
