Sorry I don't have better pics of the leak, I will do my best to describe it. Leak occurs after the car has been driven and then parked for a bit I get a puddle of fluid like this one. It's almost clear and mostly evaporates however it is not water. Seems to be coming from the front of the engine bay almost dead center. What should I look at? Thank you for your help
Could it be brake fluid? Does brake fluid evaporate? It has a slight yellow tint and feels slick. I always thought brake fluid was red. I guess I need to learn a lot about this car. I'm going to go jack it up and take a closer look.
Water with antifreeze would feel slick as well. If it is water, the color would depend on the type of antifreeze used. Could be Pink, Green, Yellow, etc...
I just jacked it up and tried to find the source. I had driven the car about 1 hr prior and she isn't leaking this time that I could see. I only have 1 floor jack so I wasn't able to get a very good look, I didn't feel safe under the car. Need to get another jack and some stands. Here are the pics I was able to get from about 3 inches away not very good. One I believe is of the actuator for the F1 tranny. it has a rubber boot that is not secured. I couldn't locate the source of the leak. When I get it jacked up and secure I will do a better investigation. The picture you posted is the actuator boot. It does not stop any leaks per se. It is a dust shield to protect the actuator rod seals. That should be secured with a zip tie..... If the actuator rod seal itself leaks it will be gear oil from the gearbox....and it does not look like that is what you have on the floor. Be thankful as I replaced mine this spring. It was not fun. As some have noted in other threads, as the temperatures go down there is some leaking from the actuator unit itself. That will drop ATF on the floor. Typically that is red and comes off the nut in the center of the actuator...yours looks dry in the pictures. Keep looking.
What do you mean "water treatment?" I haven't done anything to it, just delivered to me on the 7th of Jan. I see your from Paducah KY... Visited there once when I was around 10yrs old, is there a city near by called Monkeys Eyebrow?
The fact that the water evaporated but left a stain would seem to lean hard towards a water source, such as the waterpump, a hose, air conditioning evaporator, etc... No other liquid in a car would evaporate such as oil, gear oil, tranny fluid. Is there a chance you picked up something on the road from a source like a mudpuddle, etc since it did not happen the last time you drove the car??
I have the cold weather F1 actuator ATF (hydraulic fluid) leak...not a drop all summer, temps get into 40's and she piddles every night. I keep saying I'm going to rebuild but never quite get around to it and keep on driving... Forget a new one, $10k I believe for the 'system' that Ferrari sells.
I had a coolant hose leak (not burst, fortunately) from the engine to the expansion tank. Leaked into the vee of the engine, then down the front of the engine. Looked just like that, in about the spot you describe. F1 fluid is red, since it's just ATF. You can't miss that stuff. Brake fluid is clear, but won't dry. F1 cars don't use brake fluid to actuate the clutch, as in normal cars. F1 cars use ATF for clutch slave cylinder, so again doesn't sound like that is your issue. Might need to remove the shroud around the expansion tank to see the hoses in that region. I'll bet one of them is bulging/leaking. Good luck, John
