That is just the visible stuff in 4 pictures, it could be just as bad under the skin.

 

Hey guys, lighten up a bit. It is a nice renovation; just consider that restoration was not the aim.

For someone who appreciates the aesthetics, the sound, and the engineering, this is a nice car. Not everyone has to have slotted screws where slotted screws belong...Phillips will do fine.

We collectively criticize others who might look at life through different colored lenses. It's okay....not better nor worse, just different. Perhaps in the Czech Republic this is the norm.

I'm not saying this is not a "nice" car. Dinos are by nature beautiful. We were challenged to find 20 things wrong. See my post... I have plenty of things to fix on my Dino. I hope that what we write helps the new buyer if they want to go to "original". I would love a Dino expert to point out all the things wrong with my car so I can fix them correctly. I have identified a number of items but I am no expert to get all.

Would you guys be willing to underwrite my acquisition of the car if I were to fix all of the items? I would be willing to drive the car as is until it's perfect and I would suffer greatly!<grin> If each of you were to send $20-30k we could solve this over the course of the next 12 months!

 

Bob - In that spirit, of constructive suggestions, I agree wholeheartedly. The nature of the discussion, at least to this observer, was a bit more critical. Imagine having spent a considerable amount of time and money to "restore" a car to the image seen in your mine's eye, only to have others around the world degrade your effort. Tolerance of opinion and taste seems to come with age, and I try to put myself in the shoes of the other person. Clearly, no sane person would purposely invest considerable resources in an effort to create a work that is "a bit hard on the eyes." Thus, given we are not delving into psychopathology, we are speaking of one's taste. And I, for one, respect that other's may prefer red cars, while I may prefer blue. Not right nor wrong, merely different. And Adrian's (alhbln) post, I am sure, was more a challenge. He is a class act on F-Chat and offers great input. I know that no insult was intended.

I appreciate your approach that you welcome constructive criticism ("I would love a Dino expert to point out all the things wrong with my car so I can fix them correctly"), and I hope that the owner of the Czech car feels the same. It is always difficult to offer constructive comment without offending the recipient. I just hope that we have not done so in this case, where great effort and expense was expended in, perhaps, a fool's errand to please all of the people all of the time.

I guess I will need to post pics of my car so I can get help from you all. My project to restore *04022* Blu Scuro will take some time. When I can post my pics I hope you all tear me appart on what is wrong so I can fix it. I have thick skin and will take any comments about what is wrong. I am already trying to get orginal Blu Scuro paint for my repaint... I know that this may be impossible but I want to try for original laquear. I have a lot of work on my car to make it perfect but time and $$$s will tell.

It's a Dino not a Pantera!

The way I see it is this, if your going to go through all that work, it doesn't take much more effort to do it correct. I would presume that their end goal is to make money correct? So... if thats the case they would be able to attract more buyers if they used the correct materials. If they made one or two mistakes no big deal, but you can see that there was no consideration to keep it anywhere near original. What you have is a car that will not be even close to a original Dino and at some point in this cars life all these incorrect items will need to be corrected and at what cost?

 

Perhaps who ever did the work or had the work done wanted it 'their way' and didn't really care that it wasn't going to be original with correct materials. Maybe the end goal wasn't about making money.

 

But the car is for sale...

Sure it's possible , but the point is that they screwed up the car in doing so. IMO there is nothing worse than a fresh restoration that was done poorly.

 

I just talked to my wife today about my Dino. I (we with arm twisting) am going to take to to original. I can not see any other way to respect my *04022*. Just my opinion on what to do with your car.

 

This car is easily fixed with just a few strokes. It would be great if they were all like that.

If the unseen parts were properly restored, which is really the only important issue, it is only a matter of de-customizing.

I remember the time when everyone wanted a different steering wheel, fender flares, fat tires, wheels, and all sorts of personalization to make one's ride be different. Nothing wrong with that...it was just the thing to do, or do they still do it? I think they do and we tend to nitpick a bit much.
Capitalize on the "custom job", negotiate wisely, buy the Dino and fix it how you prefer.

It sounds easy in theory and if you pay to have it done then you really don't get to experience the frustration of trying to undue somebody's improper work. I think the most aggravating issue is replacing oversized screws, the correct ones don't fit in the existing holes.

 

the costs to restorate a Dino which has been restorated wrongly is twice the cost you need to restorate a completely original Dino never touched...

Who mentioned slotted screws? Twenty horrors on this car have been identified and listed, but not one of them includes anything about screws. The problems are many orders of magnitude more serious than wrong screws, hadn't you noticed?

Sorry Jim, It's certainly different, but also and undoubtedly much worse. Not OK at all, and not at all like other impeccable Czech renovations that I have seen. Not everything goes.

I agree, but possibly this one, may be a cosmetics issue and I insist, if the mechanicals and the chassis were done well, then it just might be worth it.
The 20+details mentioned are not huge $, OK the paint and upholsterty could be, but if the potential buyer did not mind so much, it could be viable.

If they went this far, it cannot be all that bad. Only problem I see, is that the fender flares are much more prominent.

Is it the same car? I certainly would not even come close to considering it after such blatant differences...

I really wonder about these so called 'brokers'...

On the mail, offering the car, the broker clearly states: "Dear Sirs, I am pleased to offer, without liability on error:"
