Here's the rather poor brochure shot, and before you ask, I've never actually seen one in hardcopy form, only this image. Image Unavailable, Please Login
You'll have to correct Wikipedia... --------------------------------- The US military tested the Cheetah and allegedly destroyed the only prototype. The remains were never returned to Lamborghini or MTI.[1] In the end, the military contract was awarded to AM General and their similar looking Humvee. --------------------------------- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamborghini_Cheetah DF
Yes, the Brouchure are cool and in the forieg language, we have a box full of them that were never used as well as the orginal art work set up for them.
The pics you psoted of the show are nice, we have many many more, orgianl from the show as well. One funny side not: They provider of the truck was PISSED as hell when they came to the show and saw Lamborghini had drilled 3 holes into the hood to place the Lambo Badge on it. They were not supposed to do that at all. It was agreed that the CHEETAH lettering on the hood would be OK, it was a sticker, not painted and was to come. After the show the badge was taken off and the holes gfilled in, can still see the body patch work on the current vehicle from where the three holes were for the badge. You are also correct on the Ambulance. AFTER the orginal Cheetah was sold to the next company, it was them that made 3-4 OTHER 2nd generation Cheetah proto-types that were sent to the Military, a AMbulance, a troop carry, a light missel support vehicel as well..THOSE are the ones that the Military DID test, and were never seen back to the factory again..they did not go after them as they lost the bid process and it went to Chrysler FMC at the time, so the project was dead in the water.
Here we have a letter from the famous Delorean guy. To add to this story, a meeting was set up in regards to this, HOWEVER it never happened as the day PRIOR to the meeting he was arrested by the FBI, as we all recall. Just thinhk what could have happened if that chain of events did not occurr. AND yes, I am blocking out all the contact info...but will have it all revealed once we release this truck. We are shooting for a major presentation to the public with all kinds of video, print and the orginal people involved with it for August 2013 at Monterey Concourso.. The L factory is now getting very very involved with us on this, they want it back for the Museum
How come that Factory is now interested in Cheetah while they let the Marzal, Athon and Bravo go in private hands ? They're finally understanding their mistake ? I do like the Cheetah. So we'll know (later) if this is the real Cheetah or a prototype (as suggested by Joe S. in another thread) ?
I think one major reason for the difference in interest is that the Cheetah was actually shown at many major shows by Lamborghini on their own stand as their own, not by a design house as a design exercise.
Agree. But the big three ones (especially the Marzal) are part of Lamborghini history, not like the recent CGI cars done by car designs students using a Bull Badge. My opinion, would have been very happy to see again the Marzal in Factory Museum.
So, let me set myself straight. While a very cool find, the Cheetah is not a Lamborghini? Not even designed and built anywhere near italy? Correct? I always thought is was design and built in house as a Lamborghini by Lamborghini or the likes of Bertone. What has it been doing the last 25yrs?
Roy, do have these actual documents? Very cool if you do. These letters and stuff are on the web: http://www.entermyworld.com/history/delorean-documents As a side note: My aunt has owned an investment firm on Wall St. for about 40 years. The company was an original investor of the Delorean. I was a 13 or 14 year old in the late 70's. She brought up to Connecticut and laid out on our dining room table the entire blueprints of the Delorean. I thought it was the coolest thing I've ever seen and wish I understood more than I did. She accumulated a lot of documents of the years of that car. Maybe I will ask her where it all is. I WISH the Cheetah had ANY of the Lambo motors in it! Interesting that it has a Chryslar motor in it years before their involvement. Must have been sleeping together years before their marriage
Peter, I have a small collection of delorean historical documents. I would be interested if you come across anything in your search
I am confused. If the thing doesn't have a Lambo drive train in it, wasn't designed by them, wasn't built by them, what's the connection to Lamborghini?
So it seems. Still a neat piece but the luster is a bit gone. Very cool. Neat stuff on that site; here are the Cheetah related items... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I thing many are missing the fact that Lamborghini, paid and commissioned for the design. Then, when they got there hands on it in Italy, after the show, they delayed and stone walled the return of the vehicle to the designers. They used this time to take the truck apart quite a bit I the factory for reverse engineering, wrongfully taking the design and information which they further developed into what was to broke the LM. They could not, due to lack of funds pay for the rights of the vehicle, so for lack of a better term stole it while in their extended possession Which they were not entitled to. This is fully documented in multiple writings back and forth with the Orginal designer as well as period photos of is dis-manteled state at the factory. As well is eye witness statements from employees at the factory at the time. All this supporting documentmentation will be in the complete package when I release it.
I don't see how it makes it a significant piece of Lamborghini history any more than Delorean or GM history. It is a cool prototype kind of vehicle but not a LM prototype or Lambo production vehicle. The LM prototype would be something special.
