Special trick to opening gas cap without power

So I may have royally screwed myself on this one:

I completely removed my interior as I am going to repair/restore a few things like leather/dash etc...

Dismantling everything went relatively well and I made sure to disconnect the battery before taking things apart.

However, the car needs to be prepped for a complete repaint and I forgot to disengage the gas cap. It's now in its normal locked state and I'm not sure what to to get it open. Does anyone here have any tricks or suggestion on how to get this done?

By the way, my car is a 95 355 spider

I'd have to go look... but isn't there a manual release in the engine compartment???

I honestly don't remember.

Should be a backup cable under the engine cover on the left side.

 

I'm sure Tim's right... look on the left side as you open the engine cover...

Yes its there next to the shock actuator I have used it a few times

There are emergency, manual release cables/handles for the front bonnet, engine compartment lid, and gas cap door. It always amazes me how Ferrari can be so intuitive in some areas and so negligent in others.

I had to learn about the manual release on the first day of 355 ownership since my actuator was frozen up.

 

Heck I use the cable release more than the button...both because it doesn't work and I like seeing the engine bay

 

My button has never worked since the day I bought my 355... although it WAS discovered on the PPI and FIXED by the dealer (I tried it after fixing, it worked)... BUT it did NOT work the first time I tried to fill up gas 2 weeks later... and never has since...

Maybe its stuck?

 

Might as well get ll the hidden releases exposed here.

Fuel door, under left engine bay cover.

Engine lid, under fuel lid just aft of filler.

Hood/trunk, ...............I don't know this one.

For the front Bonnet there are two one on each side of the foot wells up high near the bottom of the dash.

 

Huh now that's good information I didn't know about. Sweet!

My gas cap release is hit or miss. Most of the time it works, but every once and again I'll have to press the button three or four times to get it to fully pop. Thus far it's the only little niggle I've found on mine.
