Hello Drew, we had precisely the same debate a few years ago here im Germany. The original colour of a 246 GT was Blu Chiaro Metallizzato 106-A-38 and the owner painted the Dino Blu Dino Metallizzato 106-A-72. I can tell you, today there is hardly anything else he regrets more than not having painted the Dino in Blu Chiaro Metallizzato.... You should get in contact with him, it`s "500TR" Regards Matthias

Not the original paint, but they certainly are the original color. As to color for this car. Before I repainted my Dino it was Rosso Corsa. Underneath, as we stripped it, we found blue (don't recall the shade) and white. It had left the factory white, (at least according to Ferrari's records) and been resprayed to the blue so that it would sell before it ever left the dealer's lot. As I recall, it sat on a lot for a loooong time, maybe two years, before it sold. We repainted it Rosso Corsa. I liked that color, it looked great on the car, and I don't regret it for a second. I don't think the new owner does either. Having said all that, if the original color had been more attractive, I would have given serious consideration to going that way instead. Soo, short post made long, I vote for the original color. D
My first Dino #06718 was original Blue Chiaro Met. 106-A-38, of course Red as I bought it. I decided to repaint it in Blue Dino Met. 106-A-72, which is one of the most attractive color for a Dino in my eyes. Never would do that mistake again, only 52 cars where painted in that rare Blue Chiaro, regarding to the Compendium. If I have a chance to purchase this car again, it will get it's original color again, that's for sure.
Do you regret it because the original color is so unique? Wouldnt you prefer to have your perfect color?
Maybe I need to do a tour around the country checking out Dino colors? I'll start with those cars for sale and then any other owners that would be willing to share?
Didn't many of the gto and 60's and 70's Ferraris get changed in color a lot? Many still not original? The painting of this Dino IMHO won't affect the pricing down the road just like the earlier cars aren't affected. It's already painted once wrong. I say go for it in any color you'd like. If this were an all original restoration I'd think differently. Dino's are pretty cars every color but red in my book. Awesome car.
After buying my car in 2004 (Resale Red) i recieved the original bill of sale from Tony Willis to discover that it was supplied in Black originally. I duly stripped off two layers of red,one of silver, one of blue and finally the original Black. I then had the paint mixed by ICI to the original 20-B-50 recipe............and spent over a year deliberating what to do, i just could not see her painted black, it just was not going to justify those curves! So in the end i opted for Grigio Ferro and absolutely adore the colour. Graham
Sure, while they were being raced, and even after, they had many changes in their outer coats. I don't know for sure, and I've only seen one in the flesh, but I suspect the current owners repaint them to whatever color (within the history of the car) they like best. The one I've seen up close and personal had been repainted back to the factory original color. now I'm gonna have to scurry off and find out. I have a book somewhere . . . D
When Jon asked this question for his second car, I voted Viola. I still think Viola would be an outstanding and very UNIQUE color choice.
YOU BET!!!! I have # 12. Matthias is a god. Every Dino owner/lover should have a copy of his book. www.dino-book.com
I voted Blue Serra, but white/black looks great too. maybe it will match something else in your garage?
You know, it wasn't my first choice, but picturing it now next to my (on order) white 458 gives me the retard tingles.
Sorry to move off topic but a white on red 458 is a dream of mine. Do post pics once it makes it to your home.
