I thought I'd share a new Cars and Coffee for the Portland/Vancouver metro area that we are calling Cascade Cars and Coffee Portland. We realize that there's another one in Tigard but it can be a drive and an early wake up for people who live on the Eastside and Vancouver so we are hoping that this new location by the airport would get more people involved with these kinds of increasingly popular weekly cruise-ins.

    https://www.facebook...deCarsAndCoffee

It is being held every Saturday the whole year RAIN OR SHINE with roll-in at 8am and will last until at least 10am. The location is the Cascade Station Starbucks by the Portland International Airport just off I-205.

In addition to sweet cars there's Starbucks, Quiznos, Jamba Juice, IHOP, Buffalo Wild Wings, Famous Dave's BBQ, shopping and more!

Hope to see some sweet cars and enthusiasts there!

    Dear ZoomZoomBoom,
Care to introduce yourself in public? Being polite is much better first step, as your mother probably taught you.

That said, the Portland Cars & Coffee group is overseen by Jon Law and myself. The event was started three years ago by Kevin (KAOSS) before he moved out of state. Although you make note of our event, and don't think yours would conflict, how about talking to us first?

    Who are you?
Have you ever been to one of our events?
Are you an FCA member? Owner? Dealer?

Feel free to call me or attend our event to introduce yourself.

I'm excited to find a C&C event that isn't a full hour drive from my shop in La Center. I know that this event at Cascade Station is drawing a lot of enthusiasts out who were not attending the C&C in Tualatin.

I can tell you this much, if I'm going to spend two hours driving my car on a Saturday, it's not going to be spent on I-5. While a Sunday AM meet-up might be helpful to avoid off-setting the attendance from the original event, many of us have Sunday morning commitments that would prohibit attending at that time.

It's really not as big a deal as you are making it, I think. Plenty of enthusiasts to go around. :)

edit: If you think I'm just some troll here, you're probably right. The OP is a friend of mine, and I'm pretty glad he set this up because I can reasonably go to C&C now. I will go ahead and introduce myself:

My name is Jason Griffith, I own an engineering and fabrication company in La Center, WA. I'm not a vendor here or a dealer, but I would love it if I could see some exotics on Saturday mornings at the C&C event over by the airport. Variety at every event is always a great thing. I'm a pretty nice guy, love discussing anything automotive and chatting with other enthusiasts. While I'm not a Ferrari owner, I have always loved Italian cars, have a Alfa Romeo Spider build that I have been working on for a little while now. The little 2.0 Nord engine will be running MegaSquirt II standalone engine management with coil on plug ignition, a custom roller barrel ITB assembly w/ variable air horns and a pair of Garrett GT1749V variable vane turbochargers running on E85. Once the initial engine build is complete, we'll be doing a bit of a shakedown on it and then swapping the Alfa 105 trans out for a World Class T5 adapted up to the 105 bellhousing. Eventually I plan on swapping the entire drivetrain into a Giulia Super. I love the Spider, but something that I can assemble a proper cage in without effecting the functionality of the top would be preferable.

Our shop is also very interested in working on Ferrari development and we have been working with a few shops in California who are interested in pursuing those options with us. We're great at what we do, spend a lot of time and effort improving manufacturing processes and keeping manufacturing in the USA. All of our systems are handbuilt in-house and we have most recently begun developing a wide array of exhaust components in-house rather than purchasing off-the-shelf products to assemble into our systems. I think our business model and development acumen are consistent with the community here and I look forward to meeting more of you. Again, I don't think the OP meant anything confrontational when he posted this or when myself and some other folks in our larger group of enthusiast friends mentioned to him that it sure would be nice if we could meet on the weekends in a more reasonble location consistent with our distance from the existing meets. He has certainly attended your event and spent a lot of time trying to get more of us to attend it as well. But it's just a hell of a drive down a boring straight road for a lot of us, and for me, working 12-14 hour days followed by a 7:15AM departure time and 4-5 hour commitment was more than I could justify for a car meet every Saturday.

    ZoomZoomBoom,

It would be nice to know who you are. I don't attend too many parties where I don't know who the host is. Nor do I follow the stranger who walks in to a room of people and says, "Everybody follow me". Not trying to be rude, but that's just how this has come across.

Frankly I don't think this will conflict with the Portland C&C (in Tigard). Its far enough away that most people who attend it would probably not come down south anyway. It would be nice if there was a Sunday C&C somewhere. Several people have told me that Saturdays just don't work for them and you may find you have a better turn out.

The thing that has always annoyed me (and possibly Kevin too) is you work at keeping something going like C&C and then someone who never shows up to the event wants to move it to their place or local coffee shop. But time has shown me that even if you move to their front door they would still not show up.

Myself, I don't mind the drive to Tigard. It takes about half an hour from Vancouver, and it gives me an excuse to drive my car...when I haven't torn it apart. All things considered, the east side crown would no longer have any excuses for not getting out.

Why not move it somewhere across the river and call it "Vancouver Cars & Coffee."

That way the venue is in a different state and does not come under the "Cars and Coffee Laws of Oregon."

My guess is that Tonkin will want to host regular events at the new dealership (once it is complete of course) and that will be a bigger draw than scattered Starbucks locations across the area.

I don't do the C&C thing because it conflicts with my 9 AM yoga class on Saturday.

By the time we get out at 10 AM, the C&C event is winding up.

Oh well, gotta set those priorities ...

When it is not wrestling season we try to attend the one in Tigard on Saturday. I have been going to that one since not long after it started so I am biased.

But, if you really want to start another Cars and Coffee a different meeting time would allow picking up a different crowd.

The Tigard one runs early due to the history of starting at Bridgeport Mall where getting out of the parking lot beore 09:40 was essential to avoiding some strange parking mishaps. At the new lot by Starbucks at 15350 SW Sequoia Pkwy the event has been running a bit longer but by 11:00ish people are often on to other events.

Running a new event at 11:00 to 13:00 on Saturday may provide opportunity to drive between the events. Or going to one on Sunday in a similar time block could get the crowd that works Saturdays or has kids activities all day.

So, as has been pointed out already, there is not a monopoly claim on the Saturday early time slot by the Tigard Cars & Coffee crowd, but it has survivied now for many years. And, as an irregular but long time member of that crowd it will hard to dislodge.

I personally would like to see a Sunday Morning event as there are many weekends that my Saturday is claimed by the family, but that my Sunday has room for fun.

We should be so Lucky! I know at least a couple people have made that suggestion to RTGT people. Possibly even in this forum.

In their new location im sure that they will host more events. Has anyone thought of doing something in a more central location like in the Pearl/NW/Downtown??? That way both CC's can be combined and I can wake up later haha!!

    LOL, TOUGH CROWD!!!

RTGT would be a cool venue to merge a couple of events (hint hint) but I would think that, unless they changed the parking lot and driveway it wouldn't be able to handle the number of cars.

I have been asked multiple times to move venues, increase frequency, this and that for Keizer. I have always felt that if its not broken, dont mess with it. People like familiarity and routine. I know I do!

Yep! As posted and kept up reliably since May 7, 2011.

I do not get there every week. But every week I do, I post at least a couple pictures.

The OP and I are both former attendees of the Tigard meet. The Cascade Cars and Coffee meet exceeds attendance and potential population numbers. (IB4 "quality vs. quantity") If you choose to not attend the Cascade meet, you are further exemplifying Ferrari owners as elitist snobs. Just saying.

Wow...way to entice people to attend both events...really? Calling Ferrari owners "elitist snobs"? That's how unity within a community grows! You go with your bad self...just sayin.

So how does saying that if you don't come to Cascade C&C all Ferrari owners are snobs? Where is this coming from?

LOL that makes no sense. So if i don't choose to goto the cascade meet "im an elitist snob" but if i do then im not, its that easy?

Thats akin to an elementary school kid saying "If you don't give me your jello im telling everyone you pooped your pants".

Sorry to those I offended (and confused) with my statement on Sunday. I guess I'm just frustrated that we feel the need to "split up" these C&C events, due to many contributing circumstances. I do admire the vehicles in attendance at the Tigard meet, and was being juvenile with the name calling.

That being said, I know that most of the people in attendance would love to see your beautiful cars at the Cascade event- Plus, it would give me a chance to apologize in person. I promise, I will not beat anyone up and take their jello. ;-)

I for one don't mind the two C&C's. Portland could benefit with larger automotive culture. In fact I have heard several people mention there was one on Sundays.
