Yeah, the only problem is how long it takes to get round the circuit! (I've walked around the out skirts of Silverstone and Suzuka - even halfway round is a bloody long walk! ) Now an express scooter or buggy delivery service to the second seat included in the twin-ticket price!, Mmm..... now that's got potential!
There I agree. I've gotta be honest, I've never really understood this whole "PSL" thing at all - *If* (& I'm not sure this is really the case) I've got to lay down $5K just for the chance to buy a ticket in a grandstand for the next x years, then they're in dreamland IMO. I'd be willing to bet I can get seats pretty much wherever I want at a "reasonable" (in F1 terms!) price - And thru the promoter, not scalpers. But I could be wrong...... Cheers, Ian
I don't see the term 'grandstand seating' mentioned in the FAQ for the 'license': Is my deposit for the Select Seating waitlist refundable? Yes. If you sign up for the Select Seating waitlist and decide you are no longer interested in purchasing a suite or select seating, we will refund your $100 deposit. If select seating or 'a suite' covers all grandstand seating, then I guess that is what you are describing. Otherwise, it may only cover a small percentage of the grandstand seeting, such as the mezzanine or other covered areas.
BINGO! They need to realize that this isn't going to be like selling Cowboys tickets in Texas... The concept sucks.
i'm concerned these people see f1 fans as champange swilling millionaires. i feel they're in for a rude awakening. if indy couldn't make it with what was a very reasonable pricing structure how do they think they're going to sell overpriced tickets. i guess time will tell
I posted this on the other thread, they have hired a firm called Legends, they are in charge of selling PSL's and tickets at Cowboy Stadium, the Yankees and some minor league baseball teams.. The group is solicting resumes for a hiring fair at the end of Feb, see below. A flawed but somewhat desperate stategy.. Have to come up with any additional revenue sources... It's very apparent when you look at the management team, The President of COTA is from the Churchhill Downs, Marketing VP is from the Dallas Stars, they have no one with prior open wheel experience from IMS or CART to tell you this is going to come back and bit them.. Based on the info pasted from the job description they wouldnt start hiring sales staff until the end of February, not a lot of time to sell...No way this facility will host a NASCAR Sprint Cup Race, not with SMI owning TMS, possible contraction of dates, etc.. If you look at NASCARs attempted expansion efforts the last decade and who was involved( NASCAR), they want to go where they aren't, Seattle, NYC and they aren't going to give a lucrative Sprint Cup date to a new kid in the block..... I thought I read somewhere too, that they will build the main grand stands and add temporary seating as demand dictates, that is a smart move. Below is a link to Legends Hospitality Management website, this is a company owned by Goldman Sachs, the Cowboys and the Yankees.. They want to get into sports marketing, owning events, etc.. About $200 mil in sales. The management team is from stick and ball sports and I hate to say it but they are going to learn a few lessonswith the Open Wheel and F1 fan in North America and abroad... With a little luck COTA will sell a title sponsorship deal with Red Bull and let Red Bull do what they are great at, promoting and owning events... COTA has a new website up, the third one that I know of... Hate to point out things, but this new doesn't offer a Spanish version or other international versions..Another small but incredibly basic need to market and sell. With a Mexican driver in 2012, and Carlos Slim involved in F1, another market and sponsorship pool that has to be addressed.. It helped CART unbelievably with Mexican drivers, sponsors and events at Mexico City and Monterrey. The passion they have will need to be tapped to make the F1 race a long term success.. Hope they get on it sooner than later, partner with the old promoters of the CART races in Mexico would be a wise move at least a phone call.... http://www.legendshm.com/home-page
this is Sick i am going to montreal for 10 years and the most i paid was $475.00 for 3 days at the hair pin track level what is wrong with the US when it comes to F1 all the fans getting f%#@t before the even have race.only in the us.
I threw in the $100 for the PSL waiting list. I'm ultimately looking for some sort of track config and seating before I buy anythin as I live 1200+ miles from the track and would go to bring customers. I'll likely just skip it and shell out for "VIP paddocks" or whatever nonsense experience on an as-needed basis.
Can someone please explain this concept to stupid old me? So I shell out my 1 - 5k, and that only gets me the right to buy a ticket? Am I getting this right? What the hell do I get out of this? It's not like if I decline to purchase they're gonna let the seat go unfilled... Also: aren't F1 tix expensive enough? I mean we know that that's the going rate but how the hell are you gonna convince the casual fan or even a non-f1 racing fan that a $400 ticket is now magically worth $1400?!??!?!?!? I was tempted to go at some point if it ever happens because I like the track layout, but MAN is COTA ever ****ing things up BAD. They're a disorganized and greedy lot who don't get that they aren't the big fish in this pond....
You mean the "Sucker Seats"? My worry is this is not just promoters out of touch but a desperate pitch for funds.
A personal seat license, or PSL, gives the holder the right to buy season tickets for a certain seat in a stadium. This holder can sell the seat license to someone else if they no longer wish to purchase season tickets.[1] However, if the seat license holder chooses not to sell the seat licenses and does not renew the season tickets, the holder forfeits the license back to the team. Most seat licenses are valid for as long as the team plays in the current venue. You see this work best in an environment where there is great demand or greater demand for the ticket than tickets allowed, NFL, Some college football, etc. The value of the PSL can go up in value over time if the demand of ticket stays high.. That is the issue with this concept at a new road course, hosting a event with no track record, that will have the ability to build unlimited seating. It's difficult to say that the value of the PSL will stay at its original value, go up or certainly down...
Me too! My perfect section is an area that allows several different views with short and hairy breaking zones foloowed by highspeed sweepers, SSSSSSS's.
Given that the local reference is football I expect that they may sell a good number of seats on the "fifty Yard Line".
I got the e-mail this morning. Looks like a money grab to me. They need funding, and what better way then to sell PSL's. I'll be buying GA tickets when they go on sale so I can hang out with the "unwashed masses".
