Your best is more than most------thank you Taz.

So, with that said, the 2005 612 may have a shift speed of 180ms.

The HGTS/C packages that came on the 2006 to 2007 612's gave the 612 a shift time to 160ms.

The 2008 and up,612's incorporated the super fast F1 (standard) in thier cars which gave a 100ms shift time.

However, the 2008 612 and up could be optioned out to have the HGTS package which gave the shift time to around 80ms.

After researching this 612 model it seems that were alot of internal upgrades that happened to it over the years. upgrades that could be optioned and upgrades that became standard-----confusing at least to me. I guess that is why there is such a big price difference between the 2005 and 2006, and also between 2006/2007 to 2008 and up.

I was hoping that the 2006/2007 HGTS/C shift times were closer to the 2008 model of 100ms.

Now with this info, I need to start test driving the models to see if I can feel the difference, mostly between the 2006/2007 HGTS/C option and the 2008 standard. How the car feels is what matters to me. I know this is not a sports car but still would like to have the sporty feel on the GT 612. There are some nice 2006/2007 HGTS/C out there that are reasonable. But all fingers seem to point to a 2008.

Thanks Taz for the great info.

GS- My 575M shifts at 220 ms and that is plenty quick enough for me. Do not get hung up on shift times. Even that 220 ms is way faster than a three pedal can do. 100 mph is 147 fps. A 220 ms shift covers ~32' at that speed and less for lower speeds. Less than two car lengths at 100 mph.

Piper: You must think back.. Why did this 612 interest you? Most likely, it is a combination of many things.. Model, color, price range, V12 vs your 430s V8, 4 seats, styling etc etc...

My opinion is that often if you have found something that interest you, that is also what you will be most satisfied with if the car runs up to your expectations. Because it matches your preferances.

MY OWN OPINION (not based on any fact one or the other way), is that the 612 is a car that is a top-of-the-line Ferrari model and for 80-90.000 USD, that can not be anything else than one hell of a car for the money! In regards to 612 vs. 599...: I understand that the 599 is a sportier car, but honestly, the 612 has a lot more "class" and it is practical. After owning a 456M, I must say that I have always been happy and laid back with the 4-seat configuration. It just make it easy to justify the cost of owning a Ferrari. And you can share the Ferrari-joy with trippel the amount of people as with a 2-seater.... About the color: It is sure not the first choise for the most of us, but there is something very elegant with it too. Like the previous owner explain, he was very comfortable with it!! This car is for the true gentlemen! The size of the 612 is somewhat too big to me, but it matches the new price of this car.

BUY IT! Enjoy it and put lots of miles on it! Sell it for market value after a few years. It will be a lot chaper than buying a 599 anyway. And is almost as fast. Good luck :)

    Piper,
Taz is correct,Dont get hung up on shift times especially for a 599 or 612...When I found out my 599 could not be retrofitted with the HGTE ECU I was not bummed out as the suspension parts are really what mattered to me..I was told you would really have to drive the cars back-to-back to notice any difference. 100ms VS 85ms wow,lol
Remember the 612 and 599 are GTs but can still be hustled around back roads with much fun too..If you want take a look at my 599 in the V-12 classifieds. I can wait until you sell your 430 too.
To me the 599 is 2 cars in 1, a big GT that can get you there in comfort and style and a sports car with bite. If the extra 2 seats matter to you then by all means go for the 612. The hunt is half the fun..Good Luck,Kevin

Kevin- Your 599 is beautiful and I for one would love to have her. No way, unfortunately, but you did to yours what I would have done to mine if I had the money and car.

You all aren't going to be happy with me after all of this, but after a lot of soul searching, I think what I've decided to do, actually I know what I've decided to do, is sell the 430 and not buy anything for a while. I'm in a very uncertain business year, could double in size or could be halved, neither one more likely than the other without a crystal ball. Depends on whether we win re-competes and/or land new business. This process has cut the umbilical with my 430. I came to the point where I was willing to part with it. Then the blood burn to spend at my limit began and I started shopping 599's. There's one I'd like to bring home today. I woke up this morning, eye's popped open and I realized what I really felt I needed to do, the responsible thing. Not what everyone would root for as enthusiasts, but I could still buy my third ferrari in three years anytime this year. I'll remain on the 458 spider waiting list. But I think I'm gonna earn some good karma points by dumping the payment for a while and throwing that extra on the kids' college funds while I wait and see how the year goes.

Nobody needs a Ferrari having said that you could always keep the 430 and see what happens. It will probably not depreciate that much till you see how the wind blows. Life and business is always uncertain, as is seeing tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm a wreck. It's not a matter of being unable to afford it today. We killed it last year, the year before, will do it again this year. But by the end of this year, I'll have either re-won, or lost, up to 60% of my company. I shouldn't be as worried as I am. We have a protege relationship with CSC. We're on some great new bids. Everything will probably be great. Sigh. I'm a wreck. Lusting over ferrari's is bothering me right now. That's what it is. The last two felt like well earned rewards. This one doesn't feel that way so I don't want to do it yet.

Told the dealer in CA I was out on the 612, but still can't stop thinking about it. I've learned A LOT, Taz, and am grateful. I'll put that info to use eventually, one way or another.

Bob, others before you have had to make similar choices. The only thing we'll be disappointed in is if you disappear when your Ferrari is gone. ;)
You can be certain that once things become stable with your business there will be another Ferrari for you to buy and an Fchat for you to talk about it with. Do what's best for you and the family.

I still can't stop thinking about this car, nor can I believe I'm considering going toyless for a while. All kinds of missed opportunities last quarter. I still may do this. Wonder how long it will remain available while I try to get my thoughts in order for 2012.

She's sold. I checked in to see, as I seem to be sneaking up on some new contracts. I'm happy for the new owner. There will be another. This was really cool, seeing the community come together to get the low down on a really awesome example of a 612.

Don't worry. I just got a 612 with the HGT2 package and am pretty much blown away. I'll post more later but basically it's like have a rocket pack strapped to the back of a lazyboy lounge chair. It's a cool car.

IMO wait for prices to drop on the HGT2 cars and wait for one of those.
