I thought I would post this issue for other owners to check... This could be a potential safety issue under certain conditions!!! Over the last several weeks, I have noticed a bumping, thumping, and creaking noise coming from under the car towards the front... The noise only occured when turning at slow speeds while going over sharp bumps... This indicated suspension issues, but on initial inspection, I couldn't really find anything... While attending the Keeneland Concours last weekend, the noise was really noticeable while going slowly over the grassy field... Ivan Ruiz (thanks, Ivan) and I took a closer look under the car and noticed one of the front sway (anti-sway) bar attachment points had come loose and was seperated from its suspension bracket... Essentially, there is a bracket mounted to both the driver and passenger lower A-arm... The sway bar is attached to pins (best term I could come up with) which have a small threaded rod which attaches to the bracket via a nut on the back side of the bracket... This nut apparently had worked itself loose and over the normal course of driving the threaded rod had worked itself out of the bracket... I have attached some pictures... One is of the pin with the threaded rod, the sway bar with the pin removed showing the bar and bracket, and finally of the passenger side with the pin installed... Fortunately, no damage was incurred by this failure and the fix for this is relatively easy... Re-install the pin making sure the threaded rod goes through the bracket hole and attach a spring washer and nut... The nut used on my set-up is a 1.5 fine pitch thread 12mm nut... Interestingly, I'm not sure this sway bar setup is original on my car... I looked at my QPI, which shares most of the mechanicals with the Mexico, and it is a different setup (ie: different suspension brackets and attachment points)... I am interested in knowing what other cars are setup like? Mike Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mike, thanks for posting- but before the mechanics will take over this thread, please open a technical section about the Mexico in a seperate thread. This here is a registry! Thaaaaaaaaanks! :) Ciao! Walter
Ivan, Thanks for the help. I received a very prompt, courteous and informative response from the Maserati Archives Fabio Collina concerning my Maserati Mexico 032 and he sends his "Hello" to you. The information was a list of build data and a scanned copy of the delivery document and sales order for the original owner and the dealer in Rome from 1966, very early Mexico date. The interesting part is that the information indicates that the original color was silver not White as reported in the German Maserati Club archives. Thanks again. Chris
Chris, Glad to hear Fabio Collina was able to help you. He is a true Maserati enthusiast, speaks fluent English and uses e-mail! Of course he does not have the many years of experience of Cozza, but very few people do. Please post photos of what you received. It is good to see these old documents and letters. Ivan
Hi Joe, The framework for an all encompassing registry exists. However, there is little to no participation on it. Here is the web site http://www.registryofmaserati.com/ The organization of this site appears to be well thought out IMHO. Ciao, George

That was setup by Scott. He's over on Biturbozentrum. It needs promotion and has to have someone willing to do the work ... The Lamborghini one is now a pay-for-website after years of being free. It was notoriously hard to have information on a car you owned updated. Maybe it's gotten better. When I looked at it again 6 months ago after the big changes the Espada section was unchanged.
Its -IMO- a very stupid decision to close the Lamborghini-Forum for the public. And it makes me upset after I gave them quite a lot infos about those cars when owned, sold or current ownership in Germany! Now they charge money for those infos??? Hmmmm....! They don`t get anything more from my side and I can only advise anybody to keep infos etc.! If you put something on the net that is open for everybody - and then closing it - thats something very embarresing! I don`t publish my Maserati-registry on the net - but everybody who request infos about his car will get an answer (if I have something in my files). Ciao! Walter
It wasn't my intent to bash the Lamborghini Registry website. It is in fact a lot of work to maintain a website like that so I can understand having to make it pay for itself somehow. The trouble was as you say people did supply information or helped out in other ways for many years but it seems that the reciprocation wasn't always present. Then some stuff just never got updated. Now it's a pay-for website. It's a troubling situation and I hope he can make a go of it. I wish no ill will. This is a cautionary tale for anyone who want's to start a similar website for Maserati. I doubt he want's to get involved but one of the most generous and enthusiastic gents for Maserati is Enrico. Just have a look at his website! Bob S.
Enrico is a great chap and his site is -sometimes- very informative - but his site is no registry! Ciao! Walter
Here is another one for you: I drove it last summer here in France, inspected it for a friend who ended up buying it. It had been in a long ago front end collision hence the non original front bumper. I would call it a ten footer good from a distance but not so much when close up. It drove well, felt fit and straight but the steering huh...very heavy...not like a Khamsin! The interior shot looks like it has a very nice original interior Mark. The Mexico, QP1 and Indy had such nicely done interiors. I wish they'd kept up that level of quality on the later GT cars. I love this color blue too. I saw a QP1 in this color with the deep red interior. Just stunning. Bob S.
Yep, very nice car - and cheap! History: AM112.948 1972, rosso-rubino/black imported to the USA 1976 with Roman Dussolewich -??.CA./USA 197? with Jon D. Avnet -Beverly Hills.CA./USA 1994 imported to Switzerland 1994-2005 with Gilbert Schöni -Delikon/CH 2005 with Heini Pfenninger -Küsnacht/CH Ciao! Walter
Hi, I’m also interested in building a Mexico registry. I don’t know if the project is always in actuality. I just fall in love with this car and bought this one. The car was stored in garage for years. It's a solid car but needs a lot of work. I'll restart it in few months. For french enthousiasts, this car was featured in magazine AutoRétro No 60 chassis AM112*314 sold new in France in may 1968 via Thepenier. As far as I know, Thepenier imported 41 Mexico in France (36 4.2L and 5 4.7L). How many survives in France ? Hello Wilde... Congratulations on a beautiful car... The lines on the Mexico are beautiful... It's unfortunate that the car is not appreciated as much as it should be... I am the person who originally wanted to start a Mexico Registry... Unfortunately, time and other committments have not allowed me to get started.. So, please feel free to begin one... Let me know if I can help in any way... When you need info on my car let me know as well and I will send it... In the meantime, a picture of my car resides on the following website: www.tmcsoutheast.com Please keep us informed as you get her up and running... Mike (mexico074)...
I think the Mexico is one of Maserati's nicer designs, as well as being more practical than some of the more performance oriented models. Very understated, yet still powerful and with a slightly aggressive stance. Nice. Cheers, Thor
Mike What a good idea this registry !!! If you want I can ask my very good friend to help you with the Mexico imported in France. I am sure he Will be happy to help He told me that # 166 was the 1967 Paris motorshow car and # 442 was the 1968 one The 1969 Motorshow was #714, but just came to France for the show and went back to Italy The car import figures are right. By the way, #482 has been exported to Mexico
Happy to see positive feedbacks. The best way could be a website like the Khamsin Register or the best of the best http://www.xkdata.com dedicated to Jaguar. I know how to build a website but It could be interested to add the posibility for owners or others to add informations themselves and my knowledge for that is limited. I also have some troubles with the chassis listing. 482 Mexico were built (first AM112*000 or 1, last AM112/1048) Ok. Even numbers only, OK. If you put the listing in a spreadsheet, I count 525 cars. Some serial numbers were not allocate ? Image Unavailable, Please Login
A good news for Maserati models collectors, the Mexico is planned in 1/43 scale by NeoScaleModels together with a 5000 GT and a Sebring II. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello all Mexico Owners.... I have a question I am hoping I can get some help with regarding my Mexixo (112.074).. I attempted to start the car after its winter rest, and for the first time during my ownership it failed to start... Symptoms: No fuel No power to fuel pumps (no clicking sound being heard) I tried replacing the fuse and did get one of the pumps to begin operating (heard clicking).. When I turned the key further to start the car, I heard a light thud and no more clicking of the fuel pump... I then checked for power at the fuse in the fuse box and as suspected, no power... I did not try jumping from the always hot lead to the lead supplying the power to the pumps at the switch... Bottom line is I believe I have a bad ignition switch... I would like to try using one of the ones from my Mistral and/or QPI, as they all appear to be similar... My question is... Does anyone know what the markings on the rear of the ignition switch mean?? The markings (numbers) are right by the leads and are labeled as follows: 15/54 50 16 INT 30 This is probably something I should know by now, but have not had a problem with an ignition switch until possibly now... Thanks in advance... Mike
