Hello Dino spotters. Our e-mailers go out to thousands and thousands of subscribers and this Dino is sold so we must be doing something right. It sold Thursday night, (the day it was advertised), we were cashed out in full the next morning. While the final sales price is confidential, the first number was indeed a $3xx. My regards. Mike.
Thats great mike. Thanks for taking the time to come here and let us know what happened with this sale. Thank you!
That's because they were Not exactly ideal storage conditions! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
lol......although the big rage these days seems to be wanting a "never touched, original, patina car" etc acquiring a Dino or Daytona in that state is asking for trouble IMO. I would much prefer a rotisserie restored car that is better than new. Apparently new was not such a high standard as we can see from the picture above. congrats to Mike and the seller for setting a seemingly new record for Dinos.
as far as i understood these rims came only with the flared wheelarches and the car is without flares.
I can confirm that, When i pulled mine apart it had absolutely zero rust protection..........it sure has some now!
Off subject, but will someone tell me what this is and what it is for: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Part of the USA smog system. It is the fast idle microswitch. It functions only on initial cold start up to maintain idle around 1200 rpm's. Ed
So....do people look for those in quality restorations? Can anyone tell if this car has the rest of the smog gear? Does anyone actually try to keep all the smog gear on for originality?
For myself....no. The tubing is rusting badly by now, the cam driven pumps siezing up would be a terrible thing. The nozzles in the head are twisted and warped (sometimes) They were meant to work with the thermoreactor muffler, is it still there?? Throw an ANSA on there and send the rest in for recycle...go green!!! "Missing EPA Equipment" Minus one point" I think that is all they can do....
Not designed to work with thermoreator mufflers, but ansa's. See manual. Owners manual for USA cars supplements provides good details. Says fast idle 1200-1500 rpm iirc. Will check. Should be present on an original and show cars. Not that necessary on drivers. Most are disconnected anyways. Ed
Not to be nitpicking, but it is actually the round disc which is supposed to hold the idle rpms up during warm-up. The micro-switch is there to retard the ignition timing when the throttle is closed. I am planning to publish a thread with a list of all the US Dino mechanical differences in a few days. (Freeman asked if somebody could do it). So, if you can wait until then, I will be able to bore you all to death with all the details of the emission controls on US Dinos. Lars
Lars, sounds like a great idea, but isn't there already a couple of factory publications on this subject? One being the " USA supplement manual" found in the pouch. Ed
OK, so some folks want all that stuff on the car. But.... do they just want it there, cleverly unhooked and bypassed, or.... do they actually have all that stuff working?
It's funny how people nit-pick originality, but almost all restored cars have these items missing. I think the judging should be based on the car and how it was original, especially when people (read- judges) will rip to shreads the wrong screws, but yet this cr*p missing flies.... Sorry to be a complainer, but the areas judged aways seem to ignore stuff like this. A quick question, where are you going to find stuff like this today? It ain't easy.....
True, but not everyone has access to them. Besides, Freeman recently asked if somebody could do a summary of the mechanical differences. It probably would not hurt to have it online and all in one place. Lars
I completely agree! I have made the same observation. I went to great lengths to get the air pump and all the other equipment re-connected on my car. It is now working and looking just the way it left the factory - at least as close as I could possibly get it. Yet, other cars with all these devices missing, do not seem to get points deducted. Go figure. Lars
Thats very impressive. Do you have any photos that show all the components in place that you would be kind enough to share? Thanks!
I may have one or two photos of the engine compartment. Give me a couple of days and I will try to post them in connection with the new thread. Lars
michael , i really don't know for sure but i would guess they might have been an option , just as the daytona seat inserts were available on non flared cars. dan
Not so. Although the Daytona chairs were always a separate option, the flared fenders and wide Campy wheels were only offered together- at an additional cost of something like $780, if I remember correctly.
