    Hello Guys!

Was wondering on how can you charge the 599. I cant seem to find the tapping point wherein I can put in the charger. Is it the one by the trunk where you remove a part of the panel?

    TIA

I just found out that I can use the cig lighter. They even make adapters for the chargers or tenders rather. I like this as it is a reminder to unplug it before I drive off. Oh, it works, have been using it for the last week.

Don't beat yourself up. By the way this only works for trickle and battery tending which are two different beasts and not the same as charging. If you try and charge the battery through the cig lighter it will blow the fuse. Beat myself up over that one a ways back. It sends much more current then tending and trickling.

I am trying to figure out where the Ferrari trickle charger plugs in. I do not have a Ferrari trickle charger but want to purchase one.

There are two potential places to plug a trickle charger in inside the battery door in the trunk. One place is a round receptacle that has a rubber cap on it. It looks like the rendering in the owner's manual. When I take the rubber cap off it looks like some sort of hex screw.

In the same area is a receptacle that is shaped like an elongated "D". On the flat back part of the "D" there is a clip. On the rounded part of the "D" are four very small pin holes.

    Which is the interface?

Do all Ferrari trickle chargers fit all contemporary Ferrari models?

Unlike my 575, my 599 has never needed trickle charging, at least when left in the garage for a couple of weeks.

It is the D style connector. What I'd recommend is to get a good CTEK charger and build an adapter to the Ferrari charger connector (I posted instructions a few years ago on how to do this, can find them again if needed). This will allow you to trickle charge the battery, and should also prevent starting the engine with the charger still connected (avoiding the embarrassment of driving down the road, trailing a charger behind you :)). The Ferrari branded chargers are simply the lower end cteks, rebadged...

My experience is that after 3-4 weeks in my garage without the charger plugged in the battery does not have enough power to start the car. This happened the first year I owned the car (new 2010 599). Since then, I've used the charger, except when I'm positive I'm going to use the car in a few days. If there's no power available & the car will be idle for more than two weeks, I've turned the master switch off. It's a bit of a pain because the radio needs to be reset and the gps tracker might die.

I am looking for an adaptor that will allow me to use a Zivan trickle charger with my 599. The Zivan has a round connector with three pins. My 599 has a receptacle that is shaped like an elongated "D" with a clip on the flat back part of the "D" and four holes (with three being active) on the round part of the "D".

I spoke to my Ferrari dealer and the say that an adaptor comes with the Cetek charger and the would sell me that charger for $500+, but the adaptor was not available separately. He also said that the interface had been changed 6 times.

Does anyone know where I can get an adaptor?

I just put together my C-Tek MUS 4.3 charger that I bought for $55 with an adapter that I purchased from Mouser Electronics with the plug-in adapter that came with the charger. I just followed the directions that had been provided on this forum from wkumari. I snipped off the eyelet ends, and soldered the three snap-in tabs to the charger adapter, +12v to pin 1, a loop from pin 1 to pin 2 to provide sensing for the warning light and to disable starting, and ground to pin3. After assembling with the plug and strain relief, I plugged it into the car plug on my 16M, and BINGO. It works just like the factory charger. The warning appears on the dash, and the car will not start with the charger plugged in. Now, I can charge the battery at 4.3 amps, instead of the wimpy factory unit at 0.8 amps.

CTek 7002. You can go right to the battery- its right there in the trunk next to where the factory plug is. Just takes a little work to remove the trunk lining. I would not want to use the cig lighter and go through the electrical system of the car that way. I'm not sure if the circuit stays enabled.

Digikey would only ship a minimum of 100 units. I was able to find the male connector at Heilind Electronics. Minimum order of $25.00. So I had to buy 4 connectors. Thanks Wkumari and Skip737.
