Advice please from those that have technical knowledge of Ferrari 360's.

I have a standard 360 Modena F1 (2001). As with many drivers of these cars, I would like it to sound a little louder at low revs. I was considering a Tubi (360 Modena Cat-Back approx $4,000 AUD) - primarily to give it a more throaty sound at low revs. I have always maintained the car the way it came from the factory.
Here's the question. I've been told that it's possible to disconnect the vacuum pipe on the standard 360 system and this will keep the exhaust valves open constantly, rather than just opening around 4,000 RPM. This will make the engine sound louder at low revs.

    1.Is this true?
    2. If so is it easy to do or should I take it to a qualified Ferrari tech?
    3. Will this cause any damage to other parts of the engine ie values etc due to a constant lack of back pressure or similar issue?
    Any advice appreciated.

I done it to my 360 before I got a sports exhaust. It's a piece of cake to do it yourself (even I did it myself and I know very little about the inner workings of cars)

There's a guide here somewhere, from the reading I've done - it doesn't affect anything. Infact a lot of sports exhausts don't have valves so when it's installed the vacuum pipes have to be disconnected anyway!

This explains how to do it: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=111985&highlight=exhaust+switch

Thanks I just read a fairly detailed account on this site, with Pics etc. Some said it was a vacuum tube (that needed to be blocked off once disconnected) and other have mentioned it as an electrical connection, that should be tied back away from hot engine parts, and taped to stop water entering the wiring. From previous thread it appears to be 2 x electrical connectors.

    Sound right?

I think you can disconnect the electrical connecters OR/AND vacuum hoses on each side. I just done the electrical connecters initially as I felt that was the simplest at the time. Remember to use some electrical tape and tape the ends up and tie them out the way.

Even after I opened my valves, I still went for a sports exhaust. I got a Nouvalari supersports exhaust which only worked out at about £650GBP or something like that (much cheaper than Tubi/Capristo). It sounds immense and has transformed the car! Highly recommended.

Thanks - will probably do the valves - then move to an aftermarket exhaust. Cheers

If you like the throatier sound, Tubi is the way to go. Love mine.

Thanks for the advice F-Chat members. I disconnected the two electrical leads and it sounds much better. Not as good as a Tubi, but much improved. It doesn’t seem to have that burst of acceleration though that had previously occurred about 4,000 RPM. The power deliver seems more linear now. Still very happy with the result. Thanks again.
