Why add the bleach? Why not just H2O?

I saw a report about that project before. The bleach is there to keep anything from growing in there. Otherwise, a bottle full of cozy warm water (due to the sun) would be full of algae and all kinds of bad stuff in no time.

Solar ovens are supposed to be a major player in stopping deforestation where trees are cut to produce charcoal for cooking.

This idea was very popular on older sailboats. They were called "deck prisms".

But, this is a cool trick for developing nations.

I suspect to kill any algae that would bloom in the hot sunny water. Makes sense.

    Same thing

Bleach refers to a number of chemicals that remove color, whiten, or disinfect, often via oxidation. Common chemical bleaches include household chlorine bleach (a solution of approximately 3–6% sodium hypochlorite, NaClO)
