My older (2006?) LG 42" plasma blew several boards and the screen. It turns out that its covered by the cable company insurance policy. They're offering the following options:

    A. Toshiba, 42" LED 1080p, 120hz hdtv, model: 42SL417U (remanufactured)
    B. LG 42" plasma 720p hdtv, model: 42PT350

    Anyone have experience with either?

Was the tv issue a result of the cable company?

Not sure I understand the situation.

    I'd go with the Toshiba.

Without a doubt, Toshiba. My 2002 toshiba 42h82 still performs like a champ.

I suggest doing a little research at www.avsforum.com

For me, LED/LCD TVs do not do true justice to color. The colors always seem hot to me. I prefer the color representation that plasma offers. There are some smoking deals on plasmas right now.

In the past, I would always say go with the Plasma. But LCD's have gotten a lot better.
Plasma's (in general) have better color, better viewing off center, and better motion.
LCD's are brighter and in this case it has higher resolution.
For a smallish size, the resolution may not be apparent.

That said, here are a couple reviews, choose your poison.

It appears that the LG has a wacky native resolution and therefore has to scale everything sent to it and it does not scale well. Just looking at page four of the review would have me leaning towards the Toshiba. (I didn't look through the whole reviews yet)

bought a 42" Panasonic Plasma recently. Very happy. I went in thinking I wanted a Samsung LED, but was won over by the subtle differences of Plasma. Oh, and it cost a bit less.

lcd is the technology of choice in brightly lit rooms.
in a darker environment, i prefer plasma.

I ended up picking the Toshiba. It is very light, and works great as a spare bedroom tv. Thanks for the input.
