Sorry Fan512bbi, but you will be surprised. The Renault made Q3 the first 8 races last season with 2 so-so drivers. So my list -
    1. He will crush his team mate.
    2. Podiums will be rare but there will be at least a couple (probably more).
    3. He will make Q3 on a regular basis.
    4. He will have the biggest fan base since Jos Verstappen (Bigger actually)

Please tell me...what has the Scuderia accomplished since then? Alonso, heralded as one of the very best in F1, sweet FA.

Mclaren didn't drop him, he signed a contract very early in 2006 to go to Ferrari.

Alonso crashed in the back of Hamilton.

****, Alonso couldn't even overtake a freakin' renault driven by a clown when he really didn't have anything to lose anymore. Last race of the season, all or nothing...

''facts are facts'', as you put it so nicely :).

Too bad we dont have this report from Ferrari so far. Yes its early testing but Kimi must be happy to see his team mate making this commentary.

-- Romain Grosjean buoyed by Lotus form after maiden test with E20 F1 car--
By Pablo Elizalde and Simon Strang Thursday, February 9th 2012, 18:18 GMT

Romain Grosjean is upbeat about the performance of the new Lotus E20 after his first day of testing with the car at Jerez on Thursday.

The Lotus driver was quickest of those in 2012-spec machinery today, finishing second to Nico Rosberg and ahead of world champion Sebastian Vettel in the Red Bull RB8.

Grosjean downplayed the times, but said he was very happy with how the new Lotus handles.

"For sure it's better to be first than last, that's clear," said Grosjean at the end of the day. "But the main thing is that the car is quite good.

"I enjoyed the day a lot, which is the main thing. The car is good to drive, so we are trying to keep working and improve ourselves and see what we can do until the first qualy in Melbourne."

The Frenchman admitted the predictable handling of the car was giving him the confidence needed to push to the limit and extract vital tenths of a second.

"I think this one is much more predictable to drive and the handling is really good in the fast corners," he added. "You can really trust the car and push it to the limit and if you make a small mistake it's not a big issue and you are not going to spin hopefully.

"So that's the first good point. You can trust the car, which is very important to go fast. It's really what you want to have when you are in Formula 1. If you are not confident you are not getting those last tenths."

Grosjean suggested, however, that his fastest time today was set during a low-fuel run.

"We had some fuel in the car. We had fuel to run it [the lap]. The car looks good on track and it's good to drive."

The French driver will continue at the wheel of the car in tomorrow's final session.

Watch Lotus/Renault get a 1-2 on the starting grid at the season opener! Thats something I would not mind at all just for the change.

Actually I started the "facts are facts" trend. :)

Anyway, as you know I'm a huge Alonso fan (unlike you) but the reality is that he hasn't been any more successful than when Kimi drove for Ferrari.

Granted some of that is down to the restriction on testing since Alonso is one of the best car developers. Still, his accomplished driving didn't bring the Scuderia any closer to a WDC than what Kimi did after his title. And as for the accidents: As you pointed out, they happen.

What? Renault won their two championships due to a magic bullet which I assure you Alonso had nothing to do with, but rather it was Bob Bell's work. Without that specific Renault component and the car was not a championship car.

Or with the tire regulation to limit Ferrari more than help anyone else. FA is still a great driver but he had help to gain titles. Heck they all do in some way no matter.

Not really, at times yes, at others the mac was better...and above all, Mclaren did not have reliability issues (Massa had 2 broken engines), and also the red team made a lot of mistakes with felipe (Mónaco, Canadá, Singapur)

No need to apologize!..... Everyone's entitled to their (misguided ;)) opinions. Even Welshmen :)

Suffice to say we beg to differ - My guess is he (at least, maybe Lettuce too) will be regulars in Q3 and will bag a few podiums.

    Cheers,
    Ian

That's why I said "arguably." So, yes really, either the F2008 or the McLaren was fastest depending on the race.

Has nothing to do with the competitiveness of the car.

HAHAHA!!! I love Kimi's personality...I could give a damn how he does, but I want him on the podium so I can hear him in the post race presser

Kimi, how was your day today?...."I think that the car was fast today so I ended up here".

Did you feel like you got pushed off the track at the start with Michael?..."I don't think it was a big deal, we are just racing out there and we are all trying to get to the front at the start because after that you can't pass"...

    HAHAHAHHAHA!
