As someone who drove NOTHING but MR2's for 21yrs that makes me :( .

My '92T may have been dirty but it was a daily driver that would SMOKE that one and it still kept the original and beautiful design; JE pistons .20 over plus rings-lightened crank-Greddy IC, BOV,boost controller, turbo timer,Garrett T66 turbo, ported head,TRD head gasket and clutch pack, HKS wastegate, HKS exhuast manifold.

    I HAZ A SAD!!

I should never have sold that car!!!!!!!!

Are there any very high quality F40 reproductions available? I see numerous Cobra, GT40, 250GTO, XJ13 examples but have yet to see anything of such a high standard that replicates the f40 faithfully.

They all seem to be the very low end versions like this one that are nothing like an original.

I did come across a company in the UK called enzo designs claiming to produce one, but they came to nothing, and the only example anyone ever saw was cobbled together from various damaged repaired original parts with a 355 engine.

Interesting, I believe I came across an article claiming to be an F40 seen gathering dust somewhere. If I remember correctly but I think that the F40 in question was actually a reproduction and a VERY good one at that.

I admire the effort that goes into some of these machines, be it by a private owner other than a company, as you would hope that they really do put their heart and soul into a project.

However this is a replica and will never ever be the real thing i.e. first picture.

This is the one I mentioned, its getting there, but the build quality is pretty poor for the claimed asking price of circa £100k, and I imagine the availability of damaged repaired original panels and frames is pretty low, such things do appear now and again but are very pricey given that they could be re-used to repair a damaged original car.

In my mind for any reproduction f40 to be credible it would need to be based on an existing ferrari, constructed to a high standard, be dimensionally correct and pay a decent homage to interior, mechanical layout etc

The rep in NZ is good but contains no ferrari components, and I did see one in Sweden but that was more of a visual rather than mechanical copy.

Be interesting to see if any decent other examples are out there

What??!! It has the authentic Ferrari hoses and pipes with the correct prancing horse stickers. It's definitely "all original". :D

I'm not sure I understand. The car in the original post is not a real F40?

Here is a bad, bad replica of an F...bugger it.. doesn't even deserve to be in the same sentence.

    http://www.jameslist.com/advert/303206/for-sale-ferrari-f40

Implies that the F40 was released in 85 and hence deserved extra special 2+2 configuration

This is just a bad example

    Only the stickers

I'd sooner believe that was a Koenig 512M than an F40...

... and geeze, keep this crap to a minimum, we don't want someone crying that "the Supercars section is a DISGRACE!"
