Shock Actuator setting

There is no "on" or "off" position. The positions 1 through 100 are detirmined by the ecu and it adjust the stiffness of the shocks depending on the driving conditions.

As to any specific way to reinstall I am not sure.

I believe there are only two settings .... the gear goes from stop to stop ..... I think each stop is about 90° of rotation apart.

 

Is your gear broken like the above picture (mine)? If so you need to replace it and possibly the actuator itself needs to be rebuilt.
How did your actuator come loose? It would be hard for the clip to just fall off. If that is indeed all you need is the clip then you can just reinstall the actuator in any position. Each time you start the car the actuator goes through a cycle to determine position.
I think this is the basics of how it works, as I just reinstalled a new gear and had my actuator rebuilt. I just put the actuator on and installed the clip no special position although I have not had a chance to test it as my engine is still out of the car.

 

This happened to me too. My actuator didn't come loose tho. I was just poking around and decided to check the condition of my shocks and noticed the gear was broken on mine. I ordered a new one from Ricambi (hardest part is getting old pin out and the new one in. It's sooooo small and easy to drop) and replaced it. No need to know where it was prior to removing it. The ECU/actuator goes thru a testing cycle and figures out where it needs to be according to if the sport switch is on or not. So just replace, put actuator back on and your done!
