I have seen 6673SF seen at the Maranello Rosso Collection in 2002 painted in dark red.

6673 SF was tax traded to Maranello Rosso Collection in June 1994 (when their 330 LMB #4381 SA went to England). In 2002 the Superfast went back to England.

    Marcel,

Would there be any chance you would have a record of the 3 Superfasts that were originally acquired by the Dupont family? Somewhere my family has a picture from the 60's of the 3 cars together. Wish I could find it. I believe two of the cars had the Dupont name and one was Jerry Riegal also in the Dupont family.

I really can’t find answer to the next question.

According to many sources 500 Superfast in RHD version was launched at the 1964 London Motor Show. It was s/n 6345 SF, the first RHD car. But how it may be if 6345 SF was entered Pininfarina 1 July 1964 and completed 1 October 1965? Or maybe RHD version was launched at the 1965 show and photos from Boudewijn’s post (#20) was taken there?

At this case at what motor show was taken image from John’s post (#13)? In 1966? And what s/n for this car? 6679 SF?

Marcel, may I kindly ask you clarify this point in 500 Superfast history? Thank you in advance.

I have copies documents from Maranello Concessionaires which confirm that 6345 was the 64 Show car. The completion date must be a mistake. The records I have also confirm the date of first registration to be 1 November 64.

These same records also confirm that 6679 was first registered on 4 November 1965.

The Earls Court London Motor Show in 1964 was from October 21 till 31, so could be. The completion date was October 1 1964!

Back in June 1966, I was visiting Maranello, and the first car I saw was a black 500 Superfast going to Saudi Arabia. It was destined for the Saudi royal family (from memory). Anyone know what happened to the car? It had a beige interior.

Must have been 6305SF destined new to Guido Monzino in Milano. It was the only one painted black and yes, it came with tan (or beige) interior.

Not 6305 SF, which was sold new on the 17th July 1965 to Guido Monzino (not in Milano but in Teolo, in the Province of Padova, Veneto region) and then had three subsequent ITALIAN owners until mid-1971. I have all the Italian registration paperwork from day one to mid-1971.

also Waterman still has 2 that he has had for many years, I think one is 8299 in silver with red interior and the one was red but did not get serial.

I have hard time believing it would have been something else. Maybe in for service and somebody came up with a nice story to tell to an eventual visitor...

R&T's report on the 1964 London Auto Show says that "...five delectable red Superfast Ferraris (and nine other ranks)..." were sold on the first day of the show.

Given the time frame, 8897 looks like it could have been the only car in Maranello in late June 1966. But this black and beige car (identical to the catalogue in 1966) was left hand drive (or so I remember) but 8897 was not in that colour scheme. Are all the chassis numbers with the Barchetta website?

    Grazie

Yes I believe so. An official recap of the 2010 Americana show said it was his car.

    http://www.eastparkdrive.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/2010ConcoursRecapFINAL.pdf

    Apparently it has been repainted.

Also for slightly unrelated content, but further proof to me as to the awesomeness that is the Americana shopping center, a great clip featuring Karlie Kloss called "The making of I Love Americana"

I have to say, this is a great thread! I've always loved the 500SF, especially since seeing one in person at Monterey in 1994.

However, after reading the driving impressions in this thread, I'm not so sure I'd want to own one.

It looks a darn site better than when it was resale red back in the 80's. I'm glad the current owner invested in a paint job and whatnot (I presume with Francois S, but that's neither here nor there). Looks good!
Thanks to OP for starting this thread. :)

I've scanned this contemporary article on the 7 UK cars.

My father's name is mis-spelt (should be Tomkins), and he certainly didn't only use the car in the dry as stated. I'll try to dig out some of the old photos soon. The picture bottom left on page 52 shows 6345 being driven along the road about 300 yards from where I'm typing this now.

Father loved to drive fast (it wasn't seen as so antisocial in those days) and never complained about the handing. He exercised it on the race circuit too. There was a problem with the braking system at some stage but otherwise he loved it.

I didn't know that it was your father who lost his life in #6345... Thank you for posting more photos when he owned the Superfast.
