Henry- That is a good point. Well known cars seem to be easy to move because many people know how they have been maintained.

Taz...I think I would buy a bridge from you if you were selling one. Thanks for all of the helpful info on the 550/575 world. Very educational.

Maybe the readout was 27% left, which would imply 73% used, rather than 27% used.....
    or else it just failed.

That would make sense...I can never remember which # the print out gives...I thought it was "% used" vs. "% remaining" but I really can't recall...anyone here know for sure?

The results for my Superamerica annual service last year @ Auto Gallery
clutch wear percentage was listed as clutch wear at 11% (1.2 mm).
The mileage was about 4 K , sounds like measured from top-down.
    Ciao, Troy

Henry is correct---I searched hi & lo for 18mos finding a barchetta with FHP and as many 'factory options' as I could find. Car I bought NART Blue/Crema, FHP, Lrg racing seats, fire extinquisher, CF steering wheel/bits, two-tone dash, luggage, books/tools, spare small wheel kit, 3.3k miles & orginal owner/known history/service; very very pleased, I'll post pics early March! (sorry, couldn't resist, been a tough slog!) As per Continental Ferrari (Chicago) FHP (talking barchetta only now) can be retrofitted for the "high teens", eg $17-19k; factory cost was approx $3,800, yet you now have a car that did not come "from factory" with this option, therefore not as desirable etc etc. I would guess Taz or FFB (a good mechanic) could do FHP or HTC package for significantly less, I personally could not (limited skill-set), more importantly the cost would not be dollar for dollar nor as desirable on the resale. IMO--look for the car that has the most Factory Options along with all the other criteria---as you realistically can.
    Can't Wait for spring!

What do you mean, "top down"?

I would think that means its "11% used"?

I personally could not (limited skill) That would put you with both Terry and myself .

    Right Terry?

Now FBB is a different story.

    Cheers,

    Bill

Bill- You are correct. I no longer work on the car myself. I maintained my other three when I was younger, but no longer have the desire or the space.

Most important thing for most people in owning a Ferrari is finding techs you trust. Makes ownership so much more enjoyable and low stress.

I have 27,750 on my original clutch and still going strong with no issues. I also had a 2004 Maserati CC Coupe that I sold with over 30K on the original clutch. A few thoughts on getting long wear:

I only use sport mode, 100% of the time unless I am on the highway for a very long drive. Faster shift=less slip

Just like a manual shift, there is a technique to shifting an F1 car. Not sure how to describe it, when you know when you are shifting smoothly. Play around with your technique, see if you can change the feel of the gear shift to make it feel effortless for the car.

Rob- I see no reason why a 575M clutch should not last 50,000 miles. I usually drive in Normal rather than Sport. Tech data says it double clutches in Sport, which is twice as many T/O bearing cycles on downshifts, but not sure if that is true or a bad translation. If true, it is so fast you cannot hear it. In the lower gears, I also breathe the throttle for smoother normal driving upshifts, even though the F1 system lifts the throttle on upshifts.

After a few years, like you said, you can make shifts smoothly enough to barely be felt, just like you can with a three pedal car.

Agreed, Terry. In fact when I went in for my major just a couple hundred miles ago my clutch reading was 42%. :)
