How about the 740 HP figure? Is that erroneous too?

740ish HP seems to what most reliable sources are saying... I was thinking back to the F40..different concept, but numbers are numbers.. U.S. was 478 HP! (supposedly).. I remember that C&D couldn't get their test car to drive w/o misfiring for several miles (granted a cold day)...when it did wake up they were a bunch of scared schoolgirls.. you can't see Anything..and it's Soo fast!.. the last time I saw an F40 I thought of D.E.D. jr. (RIP) re being given keys to a Countach.. "well you wouldn't drive it, you'd call out the nat'l guard, get an airlift.or something.) something to that effect.. I don't know, a Ferrari shouldn't be something that I wouldn't hesitate to give my mother the keys too.. I'm sure i'll love the new car, I just remember the excitement when I was little seeing the BB (which was forbidden fruit then) and don't want that to end..

Very rarely do numbers define a car though.

I always thought that the 550 was just bland and uninspiring in its design! Especially after the flamboyant 512, the 550 was a huge disappointment for me. It shows the differing tastes of car enthusiasts...

IMHO, the testarossa is one of the most beautiful cars ever created by anyone. However, its flamboyance is completely out of step with traditional Ferrari designs. I feel similarly about the Enzo, whose looks I don't particularly like, and whose design is terribly inconsistent with other Ferraris. It is another car where I feel like they were trying to out shock Lamborghini. The P4/P5 is the car they should have built instead...and judging from the 458, I think they know it too.

The 550 is a classic Ferrari design. Comparatively speaking it is definitely understated, but so then would be the Ferrari 365 GTC, Lusso and other classic front engined V12's which have a classic elegance

In time, if not already, people are going to see the 550 for what it is, a beautiful, elegant, Ferrari that follows Ferraris traditional design themes. If any modern Ferrari has a chance of being collectable, in 20 years, I would put money down on the 550.

As much as I love the Testarossa--it is my favorite production Ferrari--I rather see them try and recapture the elegance of their original designs (like the 550) then follow Lamborghini and others down the rabbit hole again. Not that it is remotely lambo inspired, but the FF IMHO is completely unappealing to me compared to the 612 (and yes I have seen and driven the FF). I can only hope they right the ship.

    Just my worthless .02

Performance combined with accessibility should make this the mother of all GTs.

    I like that. :)

    Praying it looks good.

I'm a used buyer anyway. Often times I don't like a car at first, then over time I accept it. Not as good a process as when I see the 458 and say immediately "bingo". But when I first saw the 599 pics was disappointed, then upon seeing it personally for the first time, recognized it as a true Ferrari and a pretty one at that.

See? This was exactly my point! People will never agree unanimously. ;) I for one, find the Enzo absoutely stunning and I applaud Ferrari for creating something so outworldly! The super-Ferrari should be a spaceship in my humble opinion and I believe the next Enzo will follow in a similar awe-inspiring mould. As for normal Ferraris, elegance is not the way forward for a supercar maker. Okay, their GTs (like the California and FF) can have that too, but their supercars (458 and 620) should be striking in their design. The 458 sure is striking and I expect the 620 to be too in the metal.

Would be cool if the new car is dimensionally nearer to the Maranello.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention - much appreciated.

Like I said in a previous post:

Just happy to see Fchat get a mention since it allows me to use this a forum for my sketches and to engage in fun discussions.

I just hope they are not referring to the 2 new p-shop's - those aren't mine!!

RZ- The 458 and 599 replacement are not supercars. That title is reserved for the 288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo, and Enzo replacement. The others are just regular production Ferraris, including the 599 GTO.

There is a forum for the Ferrari supercars below this one.

Not sure I can agree totally with this, something with 740 bhp is definately a supercar, whether its a Ferrari "supercar" is open to debate. Would there be some merit in saying all limited edition Ferrari's are "supercars". I do disagree that the 599 GTO is a regular production Ferrari but that debate has been debated to death here over the last couple of years!

Perhaps this is a discussion all on its own....;)

Can anyone really define "Super Car"? I think it's just a matter of personal opinion.

The 599GTO is a fantastic car, but it is not a "super Ferrari". The super Ferrari's have always been cars developed outside of the "standard" Ferrari production. The super Ferrari's have always had chassis's specifically designed just for that car and several non production elements implemented in there design. If you want proof, look no further than Ferrari themselves, they classify the 599GTO and the new F152 as a "production Ferraris" the 288GTO, F40, F50 and Enzo are described by Ferrari as the "Super Ferraris" They are never described as "production Ferraris" This is also evident when Ferrari says it will not use carbon tubs with "production Ferraris." "Only the super Ferraris will get carbon tubs".

Sorry for the off topic post. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

I can see where you are coming from and I agree to a certain extent. This is a matter of semantics though. Are the super-Ferraris (i.e. Enzo and the rest) supercars? Well, yes and no! They are above supercars, they are hypercars. In that vein, the 458 and the F152 are supercars, as much as a Gallardo and an Aventador. Now, wouldn't you call these Lambos supercars? ;)

I am sorry but I never fell in love with the 599 after having a 550 then a 575. I have an Aston DBS now to compliment my awaited 458 and never thought anything would turn my head away from it as it is beautiful, but this..... I think its great and cant wait to see more!

I have Never,Ever heard anyone from Ferrari call the 599 GTO a regular production Ferrari. Not Ever! Please forward us an example. How many regular production Ferraris are called GTO's? How many regular production Ferraris are built on completely different frames and mechanicals. How many times does it need to be said. Only the skin of the GTO is "Similar" to the 599. Even the overall demensions are different and weighs substantially less. How many buyers of regular prodution Ferraris were vetted by the factory personally before being allowd to purchase these cars? FYI do you know that the factory keeps a special list of GTO owners and wants to know where and who owns them on a continuing basis? Yes...the Enzo and all its future replacements wil always be a cut above all others including the 599 GTO. But it is a Ferrari supercar and deserves its rightful place. Drive one ,ride in one and if your lucky enough like me and others on this board. To some day own one. Then tell me what you think!
