Source? The design of the E-type is highly overrated. The E-type has some serious designflaws in it's narrow track width and small wheels. It looks much better in competition outfit. But any Lusso or 275 GTB, blows it right out of the water. Well, ok, just my opinion.
I am not sure the exact time and date. It is considered fairly common knowledge that the 275 was partially inspired by the E type.
the bentley had smaller wheels, looks like 19' or 18' w/ snow tires vs. the FF that has the sport wheels on it. It was an interesting fact on the AWD FF how it doesn't work past 50mph.
If you got to ask a question like that. Theres no point in trying to explain you will never understand
What kind of silly question is that? Like anyone sits in the middle of a library underling who said what and the date. I also recall Enzo saying that about the E-type. I first heard that over30 years ago from the sales man i bought my 246 from.
He said it at the 1961 Geneva motor show. As for the overrated nature of the E-type design I completely agree. I'm rather glad Enzo did not pen the cars.
thanks for sharing your link mate. I have been missing all recent episodes, and it hasn't yet come up for purchase on apple tv.
You are definitely entitled to your say mate. I have a fully restored E-type for my wife (along with my 1965 ferrari 330 GT), and i think the jag is one of the most beautiful cars ever made (IMHO). I don't compare my e-type to my F-cars.
Although the review was very biased, I thought the review findings were very interesting - the FF system appears to be grabby and un-intuitive when pushing limits on snow even with TC fully off. Seems Stig couldnt work it out. But on the other hand that understeering VW had stutted tires, which was cheating anyway.
Nonsense, TC can not be off in Manettino "ICE" mode. What appears grabby is the power delivery CPU control to the four wheels in aggressive acceleration. Tires on the Bentley were studded, the FF had Pirelli winters which can be driven on dry asphalt to 165 mph, ice, snow, rain, mud, sand. Try that with studded tires ! Additionally if the FF travels over 125 mph the front PTO switches off making for a rear wheel drive car only. Nobody ever mentions how amazing the FF is in the rain in "WET" manettino mode. Thundering away from the lights whilst your fellow exotics are spinning wildly and their owners perplexed at that FF missile disappearing in the distance is just a fraction of the fun in this four seasons car.
He is not the only one that said essentially the same thing. The 430 is a wonderful car, the Scud is *that much rawer* and - IMHO and for my taste only - did make the regular 430 too bland.
Honestly? That is so funny...I mean, who gives a crap? There are all kinds of reviews of all kinds of cars by all kinds of people. I would hope fellow Ferrari owners buy their expensive cars because they love them, not based on whether or not other people love them. Fwiw, I find their show very entertaining...and, I'm pretty sure (IIRC) they have choosen/preferred several Ferrari's over Astons on occassion (to name one Brit car)
He called the 430 "epic" when he first drove it. When the 458 was tested, the 430 was put in the segment as a car to make fun of (well, also because it was James´ car, but still...) I agree the focus has now shifted more to stupid entertainment, so I´ll just have to come to the conclusion that Top Gear is no longer for me. Which is no problem, just a matter of taste. Just as it is with the E-type. I can´t believe how overhyped this car is in terms of styling, but that is also just me.
+1 People here are very, very sensitive. I don't understand why anyone who is in the position to buy Ferrari's, Lamborghini's etc would take the advice of what someone says on TV and let that be the end of it. Test drive them both, see which one you prefer and buy that one. Job done. Clarkson knows this, that's why he took the failing concept of before and created the current series. That's why all other 'real reviewing' programs don't last and don't even come near the viewing numbers Top Gear gets. I don't really watch a single one of them, only occasionally, but I get so bored by their seriousness and non offensive opinions I turn it off. Top Gear gets it wrong sometimes but I don't go and cry about it, saying they've lost their way and Clarkson is completely wrong about everything, lol. It's always, without fail, the same people that complain about top gear. Yet they still watch it. Or they don't watch it, but still have an opinion of it. They should do something better with their life...
Harry Metcalfe of Evo Magazine gets it right in his YouTube clips. Just a genuine and extremely knowledgable carnut takes us with him on all sorts of journeys with exotic cars. And it truly is only about the cars, not about the pompous ego who doesn´t see a problem in publicly stating that strikers should be shot in front of their family. That is what an inflated ego will do to you, it makes you forget what the show is about. If you like you entertainment to be brain- and senseless, be my guest, but do not critizise those who expect more and take the liberty to speak out about it.
Of course he can say that, but "a journalist" (note the punctuation) can´t say one thing and a few months later change his opinion without previous explanation. I think that Top Gear should retain the "show just for the fun" part (i.e: nice footage, stupid challenges and dialectic battle between the guests) but keeping a bit of the "journalistic" part of the program (serious analysis of a car). Not that I really care, truth must be told, as I only watch it two or three times per season just for the jokes and the nice footage. I personally enjoyed the FF and Bentley show, although I realized that the facts they talked about were almost irrelevant.
Yes he does. I watch pretty much all of his clips, as do others on here. But it won't sell nearly as much as clarkson does. It's just not interesting to the majority. I enjoy Top Gear for pure entertainment reasons. I can make my own mind up about cars and I do. I don't need a magazine or TV show telling me anything. Harry Metcalfe tells me stuff in EVO I sometimes wouldn't know and he shares the passion...I happen to also find that interesting.
He said most beautiful, not best car... to that date... many other cars including quite a few later F designs blow it out of the water. Still, a series 1.5 convertible is very desireable. That TG episode was nice but indeed do not look at the results. Quite biased as always, though this time they actually tried to hide it in my opinion by just loosely mentioning the tire difference, which matters much more than power in such situations. TG do a lot of advertising for VAG stuff, a pity in my opinion as I am not a fan... only Audi makes models that are interesting but I know of multiple Audi owners spending as much on maintenance as the average F service. Those cars can become serious money pits after 100k+ miles and occasionally well before, too. I vote FF, that car tickled my spine. The Bentley is imho a has-been in a few years and in a way it already is, the FF won't be.
I totally agree! People don't compare cars anymore, they compare hp numbers, argue if car A really is 0.2sec faster to 60mph than car B, and try to convince everyone that a modded, twin turbo Supra is more desirable than an Enzo because it's faster.. I have actually started to avoid all the comparison threads on all the car forums now becuase I'm so tired of that c***. Try finalgear.com, every Top gear (and 5th gear) episode ever made! Great site.
