Hey everyone, My girlfirend and I are moving to the Phoenix this fall. We are wanting to stay pretty close to the West Valley because I am going to school at UTI in Avondale. We are coming down next month to look around at some places but just need to know what the best areas to look and the areas to stay away from are. Thanks in advance!
In Chicago, I lived by two rules: 1. Never go west of Western. 2. Never go south of Cermak. It was the tale of 2-3 cities. You'll learn in an instant that there are indeed 2-3 cities in the valley also: 1. North East Valley consisting of Paradise Valley, Scottsdale & NE Phoenix (st.'s): Highly desirable. 2. South East Valley: Tempe, Mesa, Chandler: some areas are nice, but it's boring or littered with meth heads. traffic sucks around there too. 3. West Valley, basically dubbed "the aves" - Avoided like the plague. What pockets are half-way decent are just strange, undesirable, and close to nothing. I know you think you need to live in the West Valley, but is your school worth hating your quality of life? It is relatively inexpensive to live anywhere you want, so it is best to stick to the east side, and just drive west only when you absolutely, positively have to. A lot depends on your age & lifestyle. You'll want to be near ASU & Old Town if you are in your 20's, the older you get, the further north you crawl until eventually you retire in Cave Creek / Carefree. I may sound harsh, but it is an honest answer.
How much do you already know about cars? I work near uti. At the Nissan dealership. Depending on what you know and are capable of learning you might be able to be a lube tech to start then become an apprentice. Pm me Joe
Love the map! Spoken as a white person who has a Phoenix address but is too cool for Phoenix so he calls it Ahwatukee.
