I've only seen one report on the new Spider on here. Surely a bunch must have been delivered to customers by now? If you have yours, please tell us what it is like - especially if you can compare the sound and feel to the 458. ie. confirm that it sounds better, and is not any slower! (I've just finalized my Spider for a May build, and will be trading-in the 458, so am keen to confirm that I did the right thing!!
Scottsdale Ferrari said their first one wasn't scheduled to arrive until June. I'd be surprised if any US dealers got them much sooner than that.
All depends if some of the more well to do customers will have them air freighted. I have heard one is scheduled for a March delivery, and another one a June delivery. Patience, they will get here eventually.
Ferrari is the only company I know of that announces a new product to the world having already sold out the first six months in secrecy and then waiting a year to make the first deliveries.
You obviously have no idea as to the lead time in high end optical systems. If I were to order a newly announced 0.7 metre Corrected Dahl Kirkham telescope, I would have a wait longer than 1 year. {Picked because it has a roughly similar cost as a 458.}
You're right! I don't know optical systems. But I do know that when Steve Jobs showed Iphones or Ipads, it was in stores the next week. And, half of the yearly quota wasn't already sold out before it hit the shelves.
You sir are one lucky guy! Got to be one of the early ones in the US. The rest of us, like the people trapped waiting for exit visas in Casablanca, have to wait-- and wait -- and wait -- and...
Congrats. What specs have you gone with if I may ask? Ours most likely will be on the same boat....unless I fly it over. Don't have to decide that just yet.
I heard from Algar last week that there are 4 cars in front of mine. I'm guessing I should have her in about 6 months.
Ha ! Thats exactly how my business runs. Pre-orders to our long term customers, then announce and solicit to regular customers...product starts arriving ~8 months later.
A few LHD ones are turning up in the UK [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmGOPsc4XDY&feature=youtube_gdata_player[/ame]
My UK car is in production (so it seems) and due in March. I am away until First week of April though . I do find it weird how poor delivery details are, I mean the lead time for components is long, and production planning so detailed , that a date should be possible. It seems they hit the production line out of the blue, then it all rushes through. Only blot I have is that I ordered an historic paint, so the body is probably on a trek now.
May build. There is a rumor i heard that the first ones in the US won't come until August. Some issue with the govt safety approvals.
And if you wanted , say, a new 180 mm Astro -Physics refractor for astrophotography , you ( or its legendary maker Roland Christen ) may no longer be walking the earth when your number finally comes up on the waiting list, as most on his many lists are resigned to.
Too bad someone hasn't done a spoof of this ad for the 458 spider! Except, I think Leno doesn't like Ferraris (or at least refuses to own one). [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUFSHzT2xuY[/ame]
