I'm looking for a decent inexpensive code reader/scanner. Preferably under $100. It doesn't need to be fancy. Anyone have any good finds?

I have an Actron code reader that I bought for about $135. I'm pretty pleased with it.

From where? I just read an Actron was $50 somewhere so have they come down in price or just different models?

I also have an Actron CP9145 which I bought several years ago. They make a number of different models, and this was one of the higher end ones. They allow you to access more information and not just codes (coolant temp, engine temp, RPMs etc), so they are more versitle. I'm very happy with it.

I too have an ACTRON CP9145. It is quite old but I have used it on many cars including my F355 Spider. It helped me diagnose my 02 sensors as well as tell me when my drive cycle was completed so I can pass the OBDII emissions test.

My thoughts are I would upgrade when I find I needed something with a bit more information. At this time, I have not needed anything more.....

I think I bought it from Autozone. Amazon also sells them and you can probably get one a bit cheaper. The $50 one is probably the most basic unit. I opted for one that has a couple more bells and whistles.

Is Actron still the preferred scanner around here lately?

Autel MaxiScan MS509 OBD-II/EOBD Scanner from Amazon for 57$.
I think HF sells the same one as a CENTEC on sale for 119$
    The Autel works quite well.
