Hi all. Two items that are annoying to me, but not show-stoppers. I'm asking about them both, as there may be some of you out there who have dealt with these before. I'm looking for tips/hints on: 1) straightening the crooked air conditioning unit...and....2) hopefully leveling my dash a bit and re-seating those little banana-shaped defrost registers. One of them sits atop a bulge in the dash, primarily on the passenger side. Neither one snaps in tightly at all, at this point. Thanks in advance.... - M

    Matt,

I wonder if the fiberglass is cracked in the area where the a/c duct attaches to the underside of the radio housing. Rivets hold these pieces together. Not sure how they would get so caddywhompus unless something is cracked or maybe a coupe rivets have pulled loose.

The banana vents are held tight to the dash with 4 plastic posts/metal clips. I'm guessing the posts have broken allowing the vents to float. I think Verrell has reproduction banana vents with metal studs/nuts.

    Good luck. Don't forget pics!

Agree with Jim on the upper vents.

Does the AC vent move or is it just lopsided permanantly. I also agree with Jim about checking to see if something has come loose.

My console had a bit of a bow in it that I had to fix when recovering it. Sometimes the fiberglass just gets weak.

Thanks for jumping in on this, guys. I'll have a look at the Unobtainium Supply catalog for the vent parts. I'm guessing that the whole upper dashboard "deck" is fiberglass?

As for the A/C duct unit, it's stuck pretty well right where it is. I'll crawl up under there with a flashlight this weekend, looking for rivet locations. Maybe easier if I pull the stereo out. If it's broken away, I can fabricate some aluminum plates, etc. to reinforce it. I'll plan o pulling the dash too, to have a look at the underside. If it's going to stay bowed around the side defroster vents, I could probably epoxy on some reinforcement there too. I read somewhere on here about the four main screws that hold the dash on.
