My beloved silver/black 400i is for sale on Ferrari Ads as some of you know. Brettski did a very thorough restoration in Canada and Waterfront Automobili did several more things here in California.

The details are posted on the ad.

I think many of you, especially the wine country enthusiasts amongst you, will enjoy the pictures I posted here. I think they showcase the car we love pretty well.

truly the best way is to view them in slideshow mode.

It is such a kick ass design and this particular color combo is so incredibly timeless. The car itself rocks, just ask Brett.

by the way, should any of you find a buyer, I'll make it worth your while :)
and I am open to a swap too...

(Yes, this was the car that was posted in Michigan two years ago for those of you who like to track that sort of thing)

i'm devastated about your registration problems Stefano...would that happen anywhere else but California ???

i'll go through my notes to refresh my memory of all the little things that were done and post a synopsis of services beyond those which are mentioned in your ad...which is great, btw !

in a word, the car is fantastic.

Very sad to have to sell. I too bought a "FULLY" restored 400i, a 5 speed, then of course spent two years fixing everything else- and I'm still not done.

For me your price seems right on the money- maybe even too cheap given the work done. However the marketplace is what it is, so I'll just say best of luck.

Your quote in the ad is something many of us have been saying for years-

"The price may seem high to some, so let me address that and avoid a bunch of un-necessary email. You can buy a less expensive 400i and then double your investment in the restoration (ask me how I know). If you can do the work yourself, by all means that is what you should do and buy a cheap 400i. But if you don't have the time or skill, then you can let someone else do the work for you and then pick up the car at a fraction of the cost of the restoration. "

Thanks for the kudos on the pics. We are all used to how people look at our cars live, often doing a double take when we drive by... the thumbs up from car buffs... but then you look at the pictures and you just know that they are not really doing the car justice.

I particularly like the ones in Napa, off Silverado Trail, towards the end in the Chimney Rock driveway in the Stags' Leap area... especially the very period B&W one with the high grain.

The trick is using long lenses. The lines on the car get warped with anything short of a 70mm lens... many of these I took with a 200mm f2.8... Nikon.

And, to be clear, I did not photoshop/correct any blemish... the only thing I played with was exposure and sharpness (except of course for the B&Ws).

I love the B&W, grainy look, especially for this car. It is appropriate for the era...
the reflection of my car on the green one's door I think is interesting..
    the lights... are so BIG...
and I like the way the sun reflects off the car in the vineyard...

More pics on the site listed on the first post!

    Best Regards,

    Stefano

These pictures need a Facebook "Like" button. Thanks for putting them up.

I live in Albany CA, across the bay. When I was shopping for a 365-400-412 I concluded that it would be a major challenge to import a car into Cali which did not already have its B.A.R. sticker. What I ended up with was an '83 auto whose previous owner could not get it to pass Smog Check II. So I am still facing that challenge. But what I'm getting about your car is that it does lack the B.A.R. sticker and now you are having to sell it out of the state. Is that correct? If so, I am curious about your experience in trying to get a Cali registration. Have you posted about this, or would you care to do so?

Actually, I put up a long and detailed post on this topic two years ago. I am sure it is still there.. just search for it.
    But yes: no BAR sticker.
Can you get it registered in CAL? Well, with the new cats and the newly installed air pump, the car actually passes 2012 smog believe it or not. The problem is a test where they put the car in a room for 24 hours with the engine off and measure total hydrocarbon emissions of any kind and the car, no 400i really, can pass that without doing a LOT of work. There is one place in NCAL still certified to do it, however, so it is a matter of whether someone is interested in investing the money to do it or not. There are other issues as well, all addressable, but that is the key one to getting a BAR sticker.
The car was happily registered for years in Michigan. It really is just a CA issue.
Thanks for the "like", much appreciated. I hope you enjoyed the ones on the web site too.
PS: so it looks like you have a BAR sticker, right? but you can't pass smog. So do you drive without a licence plate? Do you have the air pump and new cats? Speak to Sal at Waterfront Automotive and I bet they can do it for you. They fashioned a bracket that was bolted to the engine to hold the pump where it could be actually fit, not an easy task. They they had to hook it up to a Y split and then pump air into both of the headers (or whatever they attach to) just ahead of the Cats so that the extra oxygen allowed the smog to get burned up (again, as stated previously, I know very litte about cars ... one of the main reasons I am in this position to start with). Interesting that part of the exhaust system had little nipple just ahead of the cats themselves that actually enabled this. Furtuitious. Anyway: he and Sheldon know how to do it. Good luck!

Drive it? Do I seem like the kind of guy who'd come between my Ferrari and her mechanic? Actually that joke is getting a little old, but it's the truth. I bought the car on Friday February 10 and dropped her off at Select Electric in Berkeley the following Thursday and she hasn't been home since. The slut!

Thank you for the tip on Waterfront. The previous owner used another fella who charged him $8000 to bring the car back from the dead but who, even for that kind of money, fell short of actually making her run well. So I kind of don't want to return to that guy. Plan A is to see if I can't tune the K-jetronic myself. I've collected a K-Jet fuel pressure kit, a Colortune air-fuel tester, a loooong 3 mm Allen key for the CO screw, and a Bosch FI how-to book. Now all I need is the return of the victim. If Plan A doesn't work out then I'll give Stefano a turn.

do you know that you are the chassis # before the Sbarro "Memory" that was in the Geneva show this year.?. I'm not really for cannibalization (don't know the story of the donor chassis) either way Franco has never gotten any respect and he's done a few interesting things along the way..
