Yep...did a search....looked at countless threads and couldn't find this answer. I am taking my 355 into the Porsche dealer here to do an annual fluid change. Based on Dave Helms, I am buying Red Line 5w-40; I will need two gallons of this. He also recommends BMW coolant. QUESTION 1: How many gallons of the BMW coolant do I need to buy? I am also buying ATE Super Blue brake fluid QUESTION 2: How much brake fluid do I need to buy? So...engine oil...coolant...and brake fluid....Major was done in 2009 and I had the F1 system flushed when I had the 360 F1 pump installed in Oct 2010 Anything else that I need to know (tips/hints regarding procedure) to make the service easier for the tech? (I am giving him a memory stick with the three-volume F355 WSM.) Thanks, guys.
Dave made some good recommendations. We use the following receipe for annuals. - BMW coolant. Drain both radiators and both sides of the engine block. If you want throw some redline water is wetter to the mix. - redline 5 40 engine oil. Drain the oil cooler, reservoir, and engine. - redline 75 90 ns. Make sure to drive the car right before flushing. - motul 600 brake fluid. Pressure bleed the brake system and clutch line. - check/ fill top fluid - washer fluid. - install new oil filter. It's very important it is tightened to the correct tq. - inspect air filters - check air pressure - check parking brake adjust if needed. - grease all locks - basic safety check. - tq the wheels before and after a test drive. - check and adjust all fluid levels once warmed up. Good luck! You or your shop is welcome to call with any questions.
I have to say that it is so very refreshing to see guys like Bradan and Dave H. take the time to not only come on here and help answer questions but to also be available to give advice on the phone as well even though they are not making a dime on it. It is one thing for one of us DIY'ers that have had some experience doing a particular job to take our leisure time to give advice to a fellow FChat member. It is a totally different animal for these guys to take (valuable) time out of their day to help people out. How many people out there are truly willing to give of their "make hay while the sun shines" time that pays the bills and puts food on the table? It is very admirable for guys like you to do so. Didn't mean to get off topic but I thought that some credit was due here. Carry on.
I agree with ya, TC. Thank you very much for the info, Bradan. But I am bringing all of my own fluids to Porsche, so I still need to know how much of each in my original post to purchase.
A. Do I need[/] to replace my Redline 75w90 NS fluid??? I had this done when FoS installed my 360 F1 pump in Oct 2010 (4k miles ago). B. What is the correct TQ for the oil filter? C. What is the correct TQ for the wheels? Thank you!
At the risk of having Bradan correct me tomorrow....Per the manual I have: Oil = 9.5 liters / 10 quarts Gearbox = 5.0 liters / 5.3 quarts Coolant = 11.0 liters / 2.9 gallons
Well, for those who look at this thread in the future I found what I was looking for within the WSM: Engine Oil: 9.5 liters (2.09 gal) Gearbox Oil: 5 liters (1.1 gal) Brake Fluid: 1.5 liters (.33 gal) Coolant: 11 liters (2.2 gal) Steering Fluid: 1.6 liters (.35 gal) So... I am still requesting which brand/type of steering fluid I need to buy this week. Thanks, guys! (PS...Bradan....thank you for your input!)
Blamp, just as an FYI, when I had mine serviced a few weeks ago, I told my mechanic to replace all the fluids if it was needed. He replaced everything except the coolant and steering. He checked those, said the quality was good and topped them off. My last fluids service was done about 2.5 years ago, according to the records. So you could follow the same thought process. Up to you, just trying to help save you a few $$.
I just finished the 30k mile service on my 355. I ended up putting 10.5 quarts of oil in and that got just a little above the low mark. I'll probably add a little more inorder to get half way between low and high. So it seems like the car could hold 11 quarts and still be within spec. Anyone else have the same experience?
Careful.... the gallons listed in the WSM are imperial gallons....not US gallons. Make sure you convert liters to US volumes if you are in the states. That's what my initial post was in....US quantities
What in the heck are Imperial Gallons...? Ugh...now I'm confused. So the LITER amounts ARE correct; I just wrote down the wrong GALLON amount for the US conversion?
Imperial gallons are proper measurments of fluids that we use in Europe including here in England. You Americans made up your own version, rarther like your own version of the English language
Correct. Use a conversion chart to go from liters to gallons / quarts and you will be fine. Troublemaker. At least a pint is the same no matter where you go!
... In fact.... here it is in proper US measurements: Engine Oil: 9.5 liters = 10 quarts = 2.5 gallons ------------------------------------------------- Gearbox Oil: 5.0 liters = 5.3 quarts = 1.3 gallons ------------------------------------------------- Brake Fluid: 1.5 liters = 1.6 quarts = 0.39 gallons ------------------------------------------------- Coolant: 11 liters = 11.6 quarts = 2.9 gallons ------------------------------------------------- Steering Fluid: 1.6 liters = 1.7 quarts = 0.42 gallons ------------------------------------------------- NOW we can all go have a pint
Here in the US, using our version of English, we say "measurements" and "rather", unlike the apparent English version used in England.
Ah, you are what the English call a smart arse English is not my native tongue, I moved here over 35 years ago and am still learning to spell 100%. I speak and write in 3 languages, so I wonder how many you speak and write in
Got it all purchased and ordered except power steering fluid. What brand do I need to get an type? Will Redline's power steering fluid suffice?
