How to disable 348 automatic seat belt slider?

My automatic seat belt slider started to jumping a lot when it moves, I am thinking to disable it. Please let me know if there is plug/switch that I can disable it. Thanks.

 

The control units are behind the central tunnel, under the radio. Unplug them.

Disclaimer: Always wear your seat belts. They can be manually attached to brackets already present on the seats.

 

You can unplug the ecu for each belt unit. The two ecu units are mounted to the center tunnel behind the panel in the passenger footwell area on the console. Just make sure that the seat belts are in the position you like before unplugging them. They are black boxes mounted to a bracket that are then mounted to the tunnel.

Which way is best to access the units? How do I remove the panel?

 

The lower right panel on the console is easy to remove. It is only held in place by a few screws. You just remove the screws and remove the panel. Here is a pic of the panel to remove. In the pic, it is the panel that I have mounted a sub speaker. It is the only pic I have of the panel. The two seat belt ecu units are right behind the panel.

My understanding is that you can also disable them by unplugging the connector under the seats. Just make sue the sliders are all the way to the home position first.

 

Yes, that's how I've done mine. There's a small connector under each seat that can be accessed by sliding the seat(s) fully forward. If I recall correctly, you may need to lift the carpet flap a bit, but it's a 60 second operation per side at the max.

 

I removed the seatbelt ecu's in order to make room for the sub speaker amp.

Nice to know that you can easily just unplug the ecu's from under the seat.

BUT just want to confirm to reactivate these mice, I just need to plug in either the connector under the front center console or back by the seats?

I have to have my new 348 inspected in MD tomorrow and I'm not sure they'll pass because the mice are inactive.

Inspection will not deduct for the mouse belts, as long as the inspector knows how to manually buckle up and confirms they lock correctly when jabbed.

 

^ having said that, if you want the mouse to operate, check the white bullet connector under the seats. Scoot the seats all the way forward, and you'll see the connectors.

Ok.. I looked under the seats.. the only thing I'm seeing is the seat rails. There is one wire (or bundle in a flexible tube) going from the mouse area up to the belt on the seat itself.

I know it has to be there.. if you unscrew (on the driver's side) the panel behind the parking brake there are some connectors in there.. but that's all I'm seeing behind the seat.

I didn't need to turn them back on to pass inspection so off they will remain.

David, the belt mouse control was unplugged under the front dash console between the seats not at the belt track. Pull the driver and passenger panels youll see the control boxes and the unplugged wiring. It was a PITA to have them moving all the time so I disabled them and just clip in manually. I will email you pics of the controls, and the unplugged wires today.

What's the difference between disconnecting under the seat vs. ECUs? What's preferred and why?

 

Will look and see if i can find them. From what i recall, pull the center lower panels from the console and you'll see the connectors there.

Why don't you get histric tags and skip the inspections ?

 

When i posted this back in '12 i had to get the initial inspection to get it titled and tagged in MD. Though i didn't hook them up to pass inspection.

Where is it stuck?
Does it not move when you open the door?

Do you live in N. America or have you imported a N. American car into your country?
