Have my 355 in the shop (independendent) for it's belt service. I told him to do a compression check while it's there. This is what he told me. #1 cyl. 5% #2 cyl. 15% #3 cyl. 2% #4 cyl. 2% #5 cyl. 3% #6 cyl. 3% #7 cyl. 20% #8 cyl. 20% Should I do the guides and what do you think it should cost me with the engine out?
Might as well do it while the engine is out. Looks like it's ready. Guides & seals 6-700, gaskets 500, machine work 4-500, labor at least another 12 hours if not more(?). So, at least another $3000, maybe more. Just roughly estimating what it would cost me, and i'm cheap. That's on top of the engine out service.
He told me it should be done but he won't give me a breakdown on the price. He told me the guides and the major a little over 10k I think that's to much.
If you can get all that done for $10k I'd say that's fair based on my local ferrari shops rates. My dealer wants $8k just for a belt service.
The F dealer charges 6 g just for the t belt service and this is a basic service that does not include new tensioners, pulleys, hoses, or rebuilt water pump (seals/bearing)....very basic. For a garage 10g sounds reasonable for the major service incl'g the guides.
Price is not unreasonable given what I've been quoted for valve work lately. Don't know your situation so won't offer an opinion but would like to point out the significant "synergies" since you've got the engine out anyway...
That sounds more like a leak down test... so where are the leaks coming from? Is it valve or ring wear... if it's rings gone bad, all the valve work in the world won't help. Clearly 3 cylinders are in the unacceptable range.
Car runs great, not a bit of hesitation, no smoke coming from the exhaust I didn't even have to add a drop of oil to it since it's last oil change which was a yr ago. Was on a short run way in October and hit 110 at the end of the 1/4 mile mark.
+1, take it to a dyno and get a baseline, use that to monitor the health of the engine. Dyno number will fall when the motor gets tired. A 110 mph trap speed at the end of the quarter suggests that power is just fine right now. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
The PPI when I got my car last year showed two cylinders with "Excessive leakdown" I (and the previous owner) had the work done on the valves. Along with the belts and waterpump etc. the bill was $12k. She ran great before and runs great now. I don't know if it needed it or not but played it safe. Mike
