+1 on the Stradale, unless you must have the open top. Can't beat the beauty or value of a 360 spider for top down cruising. I'm a bit torn if I'm still a Porsche guy or not. Actually, I'm not sure I ever really like Porsche past the GT2/3 and turbo 911 models. Just too common. I love my 996tt for the torque and breakneck cornering/braking and overall competence it has. The brakes (steel) are just insanely good and never fade on any type of street driving I do. However, my 360 is more fun to drive, gets more attention (for better or worse) by a magnitude of 100x, and just dances in the curves. I am not near as comfortable with it's handeling on the limits (and the brakes are not near as strong as my Porsche), but I think that is part of what makes it more exciting to drive than the Porsche. With the 996tt, I can hammer down on the loud pedal to unlease 520hp around a corner and still keep the car controlled with a AWD drift. I'm getting better at sliding the 360's tail a little, but I'm a far way off from being comfortable with it. The fact that first is not always smooth in a 360 is a problem for this. The Porsche is a good looking car, but the Ferrari is far prettier at every angle and has a much nicer/more exotic looking interior as well. Worse than crap stereo though. For me, the Ferrari thus far has been the bulletproof one, and the Porsche has had a bunch of annoying little quirks (ignition switch failure, headlight switch failure, waiting on the hydralic rear spoiler ram to inevitably fail, strange PSM activation around corners with 19'' wheels that should work fine that later disappears for no reason other than some tire tread vanished, ect). Mostly inexpensive/quick fix issues that have not interrupted the ownership experience, but for the last 5 months it's been having an overboost problem following repair of a split boost hose for some reason that's been a huge menace to deal with and still not resolved after 5 months at 2 different shops on/off (in shop now, $1.5k deep into a new labor bill currently without a solution as no problem can be detected). http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/996-turbo-gt2/258444-help-dvs-boost-hoses-installed-now-spiking-1-3-1-5-bar-safe.html . Still for what I paid for the car, it's so powerful and fun and I think beautiful as well. I hope the little issues stop for awhile though, or I may be tempted to convert it to an Aston Martin Vantage (but will miss the power/torque). no need to pick one or the other.. I'm a Ferrari AND Porsche guy.. Porsche is for daily driver fun.. Ferrari is for special day fun.. drive both as much as you can
You guys are killing me, I have been on the fence about buying a porsche for a few months now to go along with my 360 spider and Viper GTS. I guess I'll have to really start looking now...
THere are some pretty cars on this forum for sure! I'm not sure i can justify a Stradale AND the RUF at this point, but maybe one of these days. The CS has always been one of my favorite Ferrari's In the meantime here's what I'm on the hunt for... Exterior: Red (Rossa Corsa?) or Silver (Argento?) Interior: Beige, tan or black would be my preference but I could live with dark blue with a silver exterior Transmission: 6-speed gated manual Options: would prefer shields, challenge grills and daytona seats, but could probably live without some/all of these Prefer a spider but would also consider a hardtop as well. Any suggestions on what I should expect to pay for cars in the 15-25K mile range? Thanks guys! Kevin
KMY, come out to the norcal bimonthly FOG drives and you can check out as many F-models as you like in one place. We''d all love to see that RUF993 turbo in person.
I recall you joined us on one of the FOG breakfast back in Oct 09. This was your car correct? It was gorgeous. Hiro Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yep, that was me. Great group of cars that day. I distinctly remember leaving that drive with a major inferiority complex!!!
Wow. Just saw this thread. Fantastic looking Porsche. Do you have more shots of the interior? Dig those seats.
wow, I'm amazed your car doesn't rub. that fender clearance is tight. btw, bill, you got some balls parking an air cooled 911 above your E63. They only stop leaking oil when they are out of oil Heres my 993TT for good measure: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Bill, amazing garage. I remember reading a number of your posts over the years on the RUF. Yours was one of the originals. Glad to hear it's still running strong!!! Kevin
Here are a couple that show a bit more of the interior. Kevin Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hey guys. I just reread the title of my post and it's confusing. Was getting a ton of PM's about wanting to buy the car. Just to clarify the RUF is NOT for sale at this time. She's been a great car and the only one that has been able to keep my attention over the years. I only have about 5K miles since the conversion was done in 2009 and I'm still discovering new things about the car and its capabilities. Hoping to ADD a ferrari to the stable. Thanks for all the posts and interest. THis is a great forum with some real enthusiasts! Kevin
Quadcammer Gorgeous! Never tire of looking at these 993's. People ask me all the time about rubbing. I've had zero issues despite the car's stance. I'm also running 315 michelins in the rear. the guys at RUF rolled the fenders, set up the wheels with their spacers and dialed in the RUF spec'd suspension and i haven't touched it since. Surprisingly forgiving too even on rougher roads. Kevin
Kevin, Great looking RUF!!!!! Being able to have one of each is the Best of both worlds!!!!! Hope you find your Ferrari!!!!!
