Both end caps split on me above the threads, anyone have this happen to them before? :(
Are they avail. by themselves (X-ref #'s possibly?) or do I have to pick up the complete reservoir assy.?

I've had the black cap split on me before and had to buy the entire reservoir assembly used just to get the cap.

Are you looking for the black resevoir or white switch cap?

    It's the white cap Drew.

Thanks Crowndog for those links. The white cap does not have the switch mounted to/through it, the switch assy. is a plug that's fitted below the cap/separate from it. I'll do some searching on their site to see if they have something similar but wondering if the diameter's the same.

    Thanks you 2,
    Bruce

Thanks again on the ATE site, it turns out the reservoir is of a Benditalia make. Hunted through the bimmer site for caps w/o level sensors, & w/no luck.

That would have been just too easy, I suspect. And then replacement parts would be cheap and readily available. That's just not what the Ferrari ownership experience is all about!

So far I have found only a complete assembley. If it is the same unit used on this Fcar. The second link is for some parts to prevent splitting of the white caps. Still searching, this is a eary return from the worm.

I keep getting returns on this part. If it is correct please let me know and I will try to hunt 2 down.

    Interesting!! I'll dig into that.

    LOL, so true.

Actually, any latter 70's to mid 80's...308's incl. QV, Mondials, 400's, & 512's.
    Mine...#46009 400i
From what I've heard, Maranello switched from the 3 cap version to the 2 cap version right around when mine was produced. But some may have found their way onto cars afterwards because...you know...'whatever was laying around at the time' scenerio.

I found that earlier but was a little hesitant for fear that the caps on these might do the same thing at some point.

When I click on this link, I'm getting "This listing () has been removed, or this item is not available"

    Thanks for the effort guys!

1)The second link sells some rings to prevent the caps from splitting.

T.Rutland has part 108802 which is #1 on diagram for $330 but not sure it is complete

2)Yes (the third link), it is no longer available but I was wondering if it was the correct part, then I can look for it. But they took it down .

I've got an inquiry sent to TR about whether it's a 2 or 3 cap version. When you click on the part, it brings up the applicable cars it fits. Problem is when you click on the various cars, some show the 3 cap version while others show the 2 cap (in the IPB's)...that's the answer I'm waiting for. May have to call Lee on that.
In digging into the Lancia route, the Statos appears to have the same version cap but finding reservoirs for them seems to be even harder. Was kind of hoping on some sort of X-ref. to it but nothing so far. :(
The cap seems to be of the same material as the reservoir, trying to figure out how the o-ring prevents the cracking. Mine cracked laterally (horizontal) across at the top of the threads about half way around (I'd attch. a pic of it but the car is 1000mi. away @ another home). Last spring, I used a power bleeder to change out the fluids (connected to the center cap fill opening) & found that no matter how hard I cranked down on the white caps (& I didn't crank down real hard), fluid would push out between the the level sensor plug assy. & the reservoir...so it's not a true hermetically sealed unit when assembled.

That's not cool, brake fluid doesn't like moisture. A call to Brian at Ferrparts has always worked for me looking for the obscure.

I'm sure it seals out moisture, you just wouldn't want to go into outer space with the thing. :D
Anyway, Brian put me in touch with Micheal in Costa Mesa who's parting out a couple of 400's. He'll get back to me after he goes through the some boxes of cyl./res. he's got laying around. Thanks for the heads-up. :)
TR's got 30 new ones in stock but only of the single reservoir version. I'm thinkin' I should probably consider going w/the new version as it eliminates the white caps for a single black one...eliminating any future concerns of them splitting on me again.

Did anyone get anywhere on tracking down replacement white / clear caps?
One of mine on my 400 has also cracked in the same way.
Eurospares is showing the whole reservoir available for £200 but I'd rather just get a replacement cap if possible...

I am also in need of a couple of the white caps for an apparently identical master cylinder on my 99 Diablo. I've PM'ed those on this thread, but if there are any other sources please let me know.
