Thanks! and no, I brought it to a shop called "Linco Industries Inc. that did the work for me. They also do zinc plating, anodizing, powder coating, chrome, nickle, chemical stripping, sand blasting, and polishing.
Nicely done. Personally, I'd leave it, but if you want to go OEM, take a sanding block and use 1000 grit dry and brush along the length of the lines until it's evenly matt with a grain along the lines; the letters will follow suit. When done, wipe off with a damp cloth. I'm not a fan of the diamond clear coats...they dirty up fast. Since your plenum is aluminum, it won't rust, so diamond clear is unnecessary anyway. Just clean often as you would the engine (no pressure washing or harsh chemicals like degreasers). I use WD40 and cloths.
Same here. I'm thinking if you show it at most there would be a 1/2 point deduction. It looks so good, I would l leave it and take the deduction. I cleaned up my cam covers to a little better than factory new, and show it all the time, with no points deductions Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mike - its easy enough for a future owner to return the Al to its OEM coarseness if if he wants a concours car. It would be be far down the priority list. I'd leave it the way you like it unless you intend to do the concours thing. Its a huge improvement over the factory (lack of) finish.
WOW Mike! That looks great! I'll tap you for the info when I next remove mine. Keep it polished!! Bob
Dennis, my car is far from concours condition, so if I can't find something to apply over the polished part of the plenum, I'm just going to polish it myself every now and then. Thanks Rob Thanks Bob, and yes I'll keep it polished. Just let me know when you're ready.
That looks amazing!!! Was it difficult to remove it? I have to redo the wrinkle red on mine and thought maybe taking it off would be easier than taping it for the wrinkle paint. Mike
I'm doing exactly the same thing with my cam covers now. I have stripped them all down. Thought that I wanted to highlight the Ferrari name and the two horizontal lines along the covers so I have polished the lines and the name. The next couple of days I will spray the covers with black wrinkle. Keep the polished areas I say! Steve
Thanks Mike, the original plan was to remove all my injectors and have them clean but, the #2 and #3 injectors are almost impossible to remove without removing the throttle body. So it's one of those "while it's off" thing, I might as well remove the plenum since it does need some touch up anyway. So, took it to our local plating shop and had them powder coat it in red wrinkle finish. First pic shows what it looks like before, second pics shows you the location of the nuts for the plenum 8 total, third and fourth pics shows how it turned out after I put everything back together. Be careful lifting the plenum up, there are these steel round spacer of the rubber gasket that can fall into the intake manifold and also putting it back together. Mike: That really looks fantastic! As others have said, leave it as is for now...and enjoy the ooohs and ahhhs bouncing off the polished letters and lines
