My wife and I have just become the proud owners of 06236, a 1973 Euro GTS originally delivered to Italy but lately of Modesto CA. Patrick Ottis did a thorough PPI and it's a solid car. It needs some mechanical and interior work, and some minor exterior cosmetic changes, so we won't be driving it for a few weeks, but we're looking forward to it. Many thanks to Matthias Bartz and Shawn Speer for advice during the process. I know lots about British cars but I started this process knowing next to nothing about Dinos. Thanks to their advice I now know a lot more than I did.

The car will be a driver, not a show car. I've owned show cars in the past and didn't want to deal with the Fear Of Driving that accompanies a 100 point car. We'll end up with a car that has excellent mechanicals and cosmetics, and which can be driven with confidence.

We're looking forward to being part of this community!

Congratulations and welcome! Looks like a great Dino! First thing, before you even put one mile on it, get rid of those "80's" mirrors!!!

Agreed, and maybe you want to add some windscreen wipers!!

Only kidding. That is one of my favourite Ferraris and you are very lucky to have one. Welcome to the forum and to Ferrari ownership.

The mirrors are being replaced with OEM ones, and the amber turn signal lenses are being replaced with clear. Not sure if we'll mount the wipers or not. They stick up a fair amount, and I doubt the car will be seeing much rain given the bay area climate for 9 months out of the year.

    Congrats on the car.

As to wipers, only takes one time getting caught in the rain without them to change your mind. Got a buddy who sat out a multiple hour heavy rain, after a show, because he had no wipers.

Those mirrors are no joking matter. When we saw them my wife and I knew they needed to go.

    Mark,

Congratulations on your new Dino and welcome! I really believe we are all very lucky and fortunate to be the current caretakers of these wonderful machines.

Dang, seems like only yesterday I thought those '80's' mirrors were the must have accessory .....

    Enjoy,

    Tom

I will be interested to see how the process of getting rid of the funny mirrors goes for you.
Problem is, you now have holes in the doors and messed up paint where the current ones are.
So do you then repaint just that area and hope someone can match the paint color exactly and blend it perfectly? Repaint the whole door and hope the color match holds up over time?

My car came with one larger black Vitaloni 80's mirror but even though I have a new stock mirror I have left it for those reasons. Also, I can actually see something to the rear in it because it is bigger. I suspect you can't really see anything in the little round stock mirror.

Remove the mirrors at ANY cost!!!! Pragmatic AND Dino don't belong in the same sentence!! When I refinish my Dino I will consider NO mirrors as it left the factory. That's why God made Porsches!!!
