I know my belts on the 348 are due for a change. I have ordered the new belts and shld be sending it in for a major in about 2 weeks (once the parts arrive as I'v ordered them from overseas. Its cheaper doing so) However I did a long drive of about 140miles yesterday. (there has been a slight squeeking noise for awhile but i think this was either the AC or Alternator belts)
No high speeds/high RPM....nothing more than 80MPH....everything was ok....i was a little scared of the belts snapping but then again told myself it just can't happen!
when i got back home, gave the car a wash and after a while, started to park it in the garage and heard a noice on top of the squeek...this time it was a ticking ("tak tak tak") noise and i'v become a little paranoid. Could it be the timing belt shredding off and hitting the belt covers? is it possible or cld it be the other belts? I cant seem to remove the allen screws to get the belt covers to check. I don't mind driving a little if I can eliminate the timing belt and (prob the alternator's) as the cause of this noise....

Now that you are basically waiting for the parts to start a major, why don't you save yourself the heartache and stop driving the car until it gets its service. No need to guess what the noise is. When the engine is out, you will know.

Dead/dieing tensioner bearings can make squeeling noises rather similar to the sound of squeeling belts; so can the bearings in the pumpkin (ask me how I know.)

Mitch meant the gearbox toward the rear of the 348/355 engine compartment that most of us lovingly refer to as a pumpkin.

ahahaha.....brilliant.....well the noise is definitely is not sounding like its coming of the "pumpkin!" its from the lower front side of the engine....near the belts....i can't pinpoint if its from the right or left side though, i hear it equally as loud from both sides....and i started her again this morning and i think the sound has gotten louder.......is there a blown up diagram someone can show me of the engine section especially in regards to all the belts and the water pump...i'v been trying to search up one but just can't seem to find the one i'm looking for.....
    cheers.

    Here you go.

That black round glob in the middle of the picture is where the water pump is.
Six inches below, and four inches to either side are the tensioner bearings
Four round things at the bottom, left to right: AC compressor, main pulley, alt belt tensioner, and alternator.

Again, stop driving the car and start the service.

thanks alot for the picture.. And yes I'v decided not to start her up again. Waiting for the parts and I'll just get the car sent in a carrier for the majors to be done.

Yeap...In KL.....most likely at the authorised service centre by Naza Italia....I'm still looking around for other reputable garages...been to a few others and am just not impressed enough and some charge just way too much for labour alone......

Personally, I would crawl under there and see if the tensioner for the alternator belt has backed off. It happens pretty easily if the bolts aren't properly torqued after adjusting the belt. Or if the belt is overtightened, it's possible to crack the tensioner housing.
