    Hi all,

In the past 15 years I've written articles for several magazines, the last 5 years or so for the Ferrari Owner's Club GB magazines.

For this I've attended many events and have taken pictures track side on several tracks.

Lately the organiser of several big track events (Le Mans Classic, Spa Classic) has required for any media accreditation to have an insurance that covers two main parts: any accidents caused by me track side, anything that happens to myself track side.

The problem is that I'm not a professional photographer so don't have a business insurance. Regular insurance doesn't seem to cover track side (I do have a general liability insurance).

Does anyone know where to get this kind of insurance for non-professional photographers?

    Thanks.

    Best, Peter

I could very well be wrong, but the personal insurance depends. If you are doing it for income, then no it is not covered. If the articles are written "without compensation", then there is a chance you can get a personal umbrella policy. Otherwise, I would assume a business umbrella is possible.
For insurance for yourself, if personal insurance (I assume health/disability/life?) excludes what you do, you may want to call other providers/brokers and find out about a rider that specifically covers you.

Bigodino, I have the same problem. I've contacted several insurance companies here in Belgium and none could help me. They all required me to be a registered photographer to sell me a policy.

I would be surprised that any company in the USA would offer such insurance.

I remember being one of a a handful allowed outside turn 1 at Michigan Internationa in the early 70sl. After the first 10 laps, you started walkingalong the guard rail to the tunnel to get to another location. I would have the outline of my Nikon F2 on my face. Where the camera was not, there was tire rubber. Sort of a status symbol. One day, I started to walk to the pits just as Gordan Johncock's car came by at what, 210MPH?

I started thinking, if a wheel came off, I would never know what hit me. And being metal guard rails, if a NASCAR car lost it, those guard rails would bend like a palm in a hurrincane.

    Scared myself with those thoughts.

But there I was being an idiot the very next race.

I ran into this 20 years ago when covering F1, and the way I interpreted it is that is one way they are 'weeding out' the photographers that were just trying to get on the inside vs. the ones that were there trying to make an actual living at it.

What they required of me (back then) was a credential request on the news organization letterhead I was working for, with contact numbers, and those that could not supply that AND have that verified were denied credentials. They DID call the news agency I was shooting for, but because I did not work for them as a FULL-TIME employee I was denied credentials.

I found another way in, but shortly after that I kinda lost interest in that aspect of photography (F1) and didn't pursue it any longer. I don't regret that at all.
