silly question F40 v. Enzo

    Brakes do one thing. Stop the car. Go to a race and listen to the screech of race car brakes in the paddock. That does not mean there is any problem at all, but pad composition is always a compromise. Good friction and durability at higher operating temps tends to produce low friction and noise at lower temps. I can destroy a set of nice quiet street car brake pads in less than an hour on track.

    The pads fit to most F40s tend to be a more race-oriented spec, sometimes for the wrong reasons. The brakes are also not power assisted. As a result, many drivers think there is a problem with the brakes and for their usage and skill set I suppose there is.

    Driven with pace and authority there is nothing wrong with F40 brakes. My Perspective is that of a reasonably competent club racer which is unlike most drivers, so I am on the lunatic fringe.

    But driven well, and with gusto and respect, the F40 is extremely good on track. Much of that track competence is difficult to live with on the street, especially if you have no track experience and expect the more modern experience of cars that can do more with their performance all around. But after a few laps, I suspect a modern super car will start to struggle with fade and overheating of engine coolant, oil or gearbox oil. All of those issues are addressed in the design of the F40 and it can be driven hard lap after lap.

    Randy, its really a matter of your personal taste more than anything else. If you want the car that will perform better on a track and perform better as an investment get an Enzo. Both are fantastic cars, neither one is "better". I follow Enzo prices and there has been a recent uptick in private sale prices. Though they are both intended for very similar purposes they're very different animals, in almost every way (price, maintenance, feel, long term value etc.) If you want one car definitively over the other, get the one that pulls most at your heart strings. If you want the cold hard investment advice, get an Enzo.

    Damn, quite the hard choice you have here.

    I say keep the GTO.

    If you can buy an F40 on top of that, go for it. Enzo... it's up to you really. Whatever you do, you won't regret it. That's the good part!

    Oh F50 has come up now! If you like that more than the F40, and one really is available, I would say go for that. I can't really decide to be honest, they're all such amazing cars in their own way. Best of luck to you.

    You can always switch off the electronics in the Enzo and scare yourself silly.

    I did not even make it to the 1hr mark (I did save it though for further evaluation) so I missed his McLaren F1 review/impressions. For some reason I have always liked the "Bundle" and witnessed his F1 start with Tyrrell, witnessed first hand and on tape if I may add. He is a genuinely nice guy and "gentleman racer" imo.

    i think you'll find the Miura was the first supercar (the phrase was coined to describe it after all)

    the only real supercar ???
    again i think those pesky upstarts from down the road might have something to say about that - not to mention fans/owners of many other fcars too

    perhaps the word your thinking of is hypercar - it "might" fit at least part of what you said anyways

    no, I was supposed to go see one on Saturday, but I decided on the F40 so quickly that I never got to the other dealership. The problem is I'm sure I'd love it and I would be explaining to my wife why I just bought $2 million dollars worth of cars in a week....It's next on my radar. I bet I have one by next year
