So are we to assume (by the photo) that you have both right now and need to get rid of one?
Or is it that you are in the market for one or the other?

    Best,

I may be lambasted for saying this in the Dino section, but I'd take the 458 all day.

Nad, in about 1996, I seriously considered swapping my Stratos for a new 355. It seemed to make economic sense then, and there was the thrill of a new Ferrari. Your situation now might be similar.

The Italia is a lovely car - the first new Ferrari that drew my attention. But its value will drop as soon as you drive off the showroon floor, and next year it will just be a used car. And when the new Ferrari models come out later, well ...

If it's just math, the Dino wins, don't you think?

I am lucky enough to have both but if I had to choose one, it would be the dino (right now)

I never thought I would feel sorry for a guy with two such fabulous cars. All I can say is one is an asset and one an expense (at least at the moment).
Maybe the lesson here is cover this in a pre-nuptial agreement, certainly when I got married the prospect of owning two such cars was so remote my prospective wife would have agreed to keeping them no problem!

Or you could just give the prettier one to your wife -- and keep the 458 for yourself.

I asked her to choose one or the other just to know where she stands..to my surprise she says the Dino because it is a very special Ferrari and somewhat irreplaceable, the 458 is just another awesome Ferrari !!

    Hmm -
If you follow Michael Sheehan's comments in Sportscar Market, he would probably say keep the Dino (and all Enzo era cars), but jettison the 458 because the switches and faceplates will turn into greasy Silly Putty, the ECUs and everything electronic will all fail with no (or marginal) factory support within 5 to 10 years, and the paddle shifters will freeze up and make the 458 absolutely undriveable, and . . . and . . . and . . . .

Not that Dino parts won't fail, but at least there are lots of workarounds that will keep the Dino on the road - just look at Corbani's Corner and OMG's extensive restoration projects. Imagine trying those projects with a 458 in 15 or 20 years . . . .

    Think about it this way.

Keep the Dino and in 3 years you can sell it and buy 2 458s.

Mike's columns are always a good read if you need a reality check when thinking of doing something a little crazy, like selling a Dino over a 458... :)

Look at the price of a 5 year old 430 - that is SERIOUS depreciation. Your 458 will likely depreciate similarly. Your Dino is likely to be worth at least as much now or more. If it's all about the numbers, there is no decision. As has already been said, it's a nice problem to have. Enjoy!!!
