Yup! I think particularly the "where are you" bit would be very helpful ! :)

......... but on a positive note, yes the wheels can certainly be refurbished, repaired, repainted or powder coated.

My recommendation for cosmetic(ie;minor) repair is AutoGlym Silver Wheel Paint. It comes in an aerosol can. Just spray a small amount into the lid of the can, use a small detail brush, and enjoy the results. Amazingly the colour that exits the can is universal. It can remedy many small faults in different shades of silver. Low price too.

Actually, it is interesting you bring this up now. Over the weekend, we had a Stooge Day get together at my place under the 348 section and I got a lesson in doing the wheels by Aiden. I am about to undertake the project, which is essentially:

    1. use 220 grit to feather out the blemish.
    2. finish with 600 grit
    3. use cosmetic filler if you need
    4. scotch pad the rest of the wheel (be sure and mask what you don't want painted)
    5. use lacquer thinner to clean the wheel
    6. spot paint the blemish with GM Ultra Silver Metallic (Dupli-Color BGM0508)
    7. let dry and sand until the chips are filled in and even with the rest of the finish
    8. use light coats on the entire wheel, sanding between coats lightly
    9. final coat with Dupli-Color High Performance Wheel Coating (clear)

Available at most auto parts stores, Pep Boys has it about a dollar a can cheaper than Kragen or Auto Zone and they seemed to stock more.

Use painters tape or a deep socket to cover the valve stem so you do not get overspray on it. Also you can put wadded paper in the lug holes to keep the paint/clear out. You can do this on the car or off.
