$10k off making the price $191.

    Red/ Tan...NO options..as in NONE.

    Is a $10k discount normal...buying a no-options car an issue for resell?

    interesting.
Yes, it will be slower on resale. I have seen Calis side by side where one sells in a few weeks, and one sits for a few months-all due to the spec (colors and options). Nevertheless, the secondary market on Calis move fairly well. It all depends upon the price point. I dunno, it is nice to get some off MSRP. However, when you get up to that price point, why not get some niceties, which will make it more what you want. If you're happy with no options, then I say great, go for it!

Was this a car in stock? Why no options? I'm confused here. They wouldn't let you order options? If it's in stock, it's a 2012.

    Here are the details.

    It is a 2012.

    Red/ Tan.

    No options.

Arrived at the dealership and the owner who ordered it (a friend of mine) offered to sell it to me what his price..which was $10k off. $191 would be the buy price. (He put down another $10 deposit and would want that back). The dealership doesn't seem to care who buys it. My friend isn't trying to make any money just get his deposit back.

This is a question you have to answer for yourself, but do the upgrades coming in the 2013 California, seem like something you can "live" without? There are better spec'd Californias with a few miles on them that can be had for the same money. So it all depends on whether or not you want to take the hit in cost and depreciation ordering and specing a better 2013. How long do you plan on keeping the car? Do want to keep the car, or simply have it for the interim?

its for my wife. So, not sure how much she will care about the lack of options or not.

I have emailed the fella who ordered this car to ask his he wants to offer it to the masses (ie you guys). If he does I will make the connections.

OK, just off the phone. He doesn't want the car.

PM me and I will connect you with him. All he wants is his deposit back ($10k). Dealer is on the west coast and the car is on the ground.

That's why. This guy is out his deposit and the dealer owns it now. They want to get rid of it.

Really-- who orders a car with no options?

IMO if the car came as ordered and he backs out, he forfeits his deposit. It's business. The dealer is stuck with a car with no options. Why should they take a bath?

who is taking a bath...? what am I missing.

The dealer is OK with someone taking the car and paying the contract price. My friend put down 10k and owes $181 or something close. If no one wants it for $191 (or close) he will lose his deposit. He knows this. Nothing funky going on here.

Talked with the wife. She wants a slightly used Maserati GT Convert.

Hmmmm. This thread is starting to get rather revealing. You weren't offered this by a dealer. You were offered this by a buddy who is about to back out of his contract and lose 10 grand.

I wish you had just come out with the story in the first place. Everyone here is thinking a dealer offered you a new order for a 2013 at 10 k off.

Get the car if you will keep it. In that case it is fine deal.

Otherwise exercise restraint. This is a MY 2012 and a 1st gen Cali (which ceased production in March). Based on the MSRP and the fact that it is now discontinued model, in 2 months this car will wholesale for about 165k tops. It will be hard to get out of. Order 2013 or get preowned with more options at similar price to the "new" 2012.

The dealer via the contract holder DID offer it for whomever wanted it.

Clear enough? If not I sincerely apologize for not being clear in the OP and in any way offending any of you.

Moving on..yes, the purchase price is for $10k off.

I just got an email from him telling me that he decided to buy it. So, no worries.

If nothing else this info will help those of you who are in the market.
