Looking at a 550; the owner sent me an email that says it was serviced at the local dealer; I ASSUME(?) it was Boardwalk; I know James@ Norwoods, just wondering if a new set of eyes is better than where the car was serviced BUT then again the dealer knows the car hopefully...any help, thanks, Max

You're fine with either. Boardwalk is the only local dealer.

    James is the ticket!!

Most dealers won't do them anymore due to liability issue as well.
I do not know if that is the case with Boardwalk, just a trend I've seen the last few years.

You will not go wrong by sending the car to James at Norwood Performance.

Boardwalk Ferrari will and does still perform Pre Purchase Inspections on all types of cars.
We have a standard format we follow or we can create an inspection to meet your needs.

James would be a top choice as well, the more sets of eyes the better, I don't think you can go wrong either way!

Let us know how we may help!

This is true, though most shops have a liability clause to help protect.

No shop can predict the future, but most can provide you a clear snap shot of what is and what appears to be, as well as set a roadmap of repairs or service moving forward.

Its the times when unknowns pop up weeks or months later and buyers come back to the shop expecting the repairs to be free... ( it happens, really ) like the tire went flat or headlight went out.

    Ok, now I'm curious.

Which 550 are you looking at? Maybe just a color if you don't want to be specific?

they are both sponsors, so can't go wrong. IMHO I would favor James on anything 2000 or before and Boardwalk for anything newer. James has a SD, but Boardwalk will have the latest and greatest SD5000+. On flip side James has fondled more 308/328's and BB/TR's than everyone at Boardwalk combined. I would also go to James for 348/355's, but 550 is a toss up. James works on a bunch of them, but it is still a SD car. Usually for PPI you want to go with tech that doesn't have background with seller or car.

James did an amazing job on my '03 575, including fixing some things that others with newer equipment could not find.

Boardwalk has invested some serious time educating me and letting me spend time in there garage and i still havent found the right car just yet. I'd give them my business in a heart beat. Know a few of the guys there and i say the are top notch.

Not sure about norwoods, have never been so could not comment either way!

best of luck and hope it works out for you!

I used both initially when I purchased my 360 last year, both were very helpful at first, one more so along the way. I happen to know one of the mechanics at Boardwalk and I believe that is why I had some success at Boardwalk initially. Boardwalk is more by the book, there are no freebies, not much small talk, and definitely no discounts to be had. After a few visits to Boardwalk I felt like they were in it for the money, not the passion for the brand, as a matter of fact my mechanic friend actually referred me to James at Norwood.
James will talk with you about your car, and give you valuable information I never got from BW, James will actually put your car on the SDII run diagnostics for free or for a minimal cost (BW wanted to charge me for a full hour just to get a clutch reading).
James is very knowledgable on all makes of Ferraris, and he does not mind working on the older 305's & 360's or the newer 430's and up. It seemed BW thumbs their noses at us older Ferrari owners, I felt like since I didnt have a new 458 under warranty that they were really not interested in my business, James will work within your budget and help find a solution, not have you fill out a work order and wait for a call to tell you what they found and what it will cost.
Go with James at Norwood, great guy, honest, affordable, and loves the cars he works on!
Boardwalk is a great dealership, dont get me wrong, they have great employees, an excellent facility, and lots of eye candy, but they are a dealership, james is a small business owner... I have never been a fan of the big dealership.

The only answer for me is Norwoods. I've had a lot of experience with both Boardwalk and Nordwoods. You can count on a consistent, long term relationship with Norwoods.

I think the car's stunning in green, and I actually like "weird" interiors on Ferraris - since they are uncommon cars. :) Takes me back to this thread in the 550 Section about a green 550 for sale . . .

That car mentioned there is a beauty. It sort of reminds me of a 1:18 DB7 I have on my shelf...exterior is green, and the interior is tan and green.

I like to see those sorts of colors on a Ferrari. I mean, it gives you something else to look at besides the usual red, silver, yellow, black, etc. I especially like Avorio and Azzurro California. I've seen Californias in both of those colors. In addition, I've seen a 430 and 599 in Azzurro. Both of those are uncommon colors, but I'm glad there are people who like them.
