http://i.autoblog.com/2012/05/01/jaguar-confirms-v8-option-for-f-type/ Personally, I think that this is going to be an amazing car and is one of the best looking 2-seaters in a LONNNNG time from any car maker. Discuss...
Jag has been putting out some great cars in recent years. I can't wait to see what the final product looks like. I am curious where it will come in price wise compared to the XK.
Their prototypes have always been stunning, but their production sedans have been disappointing lately, at least in terms of looks. This is nice looking, but hardly original. Resembles Maserati coupe styling from ten years ago.
You are dissapointed by the styling of the XF and XJ???? What production sedan do you find attractive then? I will agree with the F type. The one photo in the link doesn't look too exciting. I think the car will look very different in concept or production form.
Yeah, they are quite bland and bulky looking to me. I like the Rapide though I wish it was smaller and slightly more different. I like the S-class and E-class somewhat, the C-class are terrible. I *hate* the 7-series. I like A6, A8, hate the A7. Infinitis are hideous. Caddys are nice. Lincolns and Chevys suck. Maserati QP is nice. In a sedan, I look for a nice, balanced stance with some aggression, no tapering nonsense leading to nowhere. I look for decent mass, balanced by big wheel wells occupied by proportional wheels. Too much solid gives a slabby feel. Too much glass on top gives it a cartoonish, frail appearance. I look for similar proportionality in length, and how elements like door lines and hoodlines occupy that space. Then I look at details like intakes, radiator grills, lights, folds and creases, and excessive "jewelry" like chrome accents. Do they work or not? Does it look nice going down the street? Does the stance hint at power? XF and XJ fail in several areas, starting with the grill. The cars look ungainly to me. The old ones were nice and sleek. Really nice and unique sedans, though a tad long.
Is the current c-x16 concept what is going to become the F-Type? Or are these two different models in the future lineup? From what I understand the c-x16 is proposed to be a coupe (while the release for the F-Type mentions convertible), and have a KERS type hybrid system with on-demand power boost function. In any case, we saw the c-x16 on display at Amelia Island this year and it was drop-dead STUNNING. If the F-Type ends up looking anything like the concept c-x16, it will be a huge success for Jaguar. well if they are going to put a v8 into the more compact ff-type, then i hope (wish really) they would put a v12 into the larger xkr......i'd kill to own a current xkr coupe with a v12 (a variation of the aston / ford v12 would be fine)
Yes and no. The F-Type is supposed to be the cx16 but without hybrid technology. First year will be a V6 convertible followed the next year by a V8 coupe offering. It should be solid with the V8 if they can keep it below 3700lbs. That's my only worry is that it comes out being a real porker.
It's nice looking, but am I the only who sees Maserati cues in the front, Aston in the side and back? Not original, not sleek as you would expect in a Jag, but still, quite nice.
I'm still not sure how I feel about the C-X16. The first time I saw it I thought the front 3/4s of the car looked a Nissan 370Z. It's looks very Japanese to me. (And I love Japanese cars, too.) And yes, I know the Z cars were "inspired" by the E-type Jags. But I'm not sure who's imitating whom now.
Jag has been making it a point recently to lighten it's cars. I am less worried about this car being a porker, than cars of it's German rivals.
I was disappointed as well. The XF looks 'nice', but so does the new BMW 5. Not much distinctively Jaguar about either the XF or XJ. What he said. But I have high hopes for the F-Type. I just wish they'd go back to the original concept, which was a classic in the making... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Pictures of the car came out today prior to its official reveal next week. Gorgeous. Videos of the car are available and the V6 sounds incredible. http://www.topspeed.com/cars/jaguar/index48.html this thing will put a dent in AM V8 Vantage sales on the used market I would think.
Nice. It sounds great. Can't wait to get a better look at the production coupe. So now the question becomes, would you rather have an F-Type or an Alfa 4C??
Nearly mirrors the Vantage. But given Astons are among the best looking cars on the road, IMHO, you can't go too wrong by copying them!!!
It syas they will have a 250hp NA V6, and a 375hp blown version. I can see the supercharged for $85k, but I doubt a car with "only" 250 hp would sell at that price point. they are competing with the Boxster with that power level, so maybe $65-70k?

Cant wait to get these in. The car has been tested with the 5.0L. Just dont know if it will be supercharged or not.
I like it - especially the coupe...but do they offer a manual trans? Not a fan of flappy-paddles, sports cars need a true stick shift for my tastes...
I agree 100% on all points. I actually rather liked the auto in the XKR-S I drove, shifts were very firm, smooth, and near instantaneous. I liked it much better that the PDK dual clutch tranny in the Panamera Turbo S. That being said, for a smaller "true sports car", they REALLY, REALLY need to have a proper manual option. If I were cross shopping this car to a 911, Boxter, Vantage, Alfa 4C, or other similarly priced car with a proper manual, that would heavily sway my decision away from the Jag if it was only available with an auto.
