First of all, let me say that I have deep respect for the officers in TO, but I have had two events that had me scratching my head. A few weeks ago I was at a red light in my F430 spider and I was next to a cop car. I accelerated up to 60 km/h (the speed limit), changing gears at 4000 rpm. The police then followed me and pulled my over, and asked why I was accelerating so fast. I said it was the car making the noise, I wasn't pushing it. He then said that I was making him "look bad", and what would other people think if they saw what happened. He said I was disrespecting him. Huh? I was being polite and apologized, he let me go without a ticket, as I didn't break the law. Today I was going down the DVP, and a Police car trailed me in the adjacent lane, hiding in my "blind spot", and followed me for about 10 min. If I slowed down, he would slow down, I think he was waiting for me to speed up to pull me over. Eventually he got bored and sped away. I should note that both times the officers looked pretty young, in their twenties. This after my tool shed got broken into last week and I had my bike and some tools stolen. I have the evidence on closed circuit camera, I called the Police, they took a statement, and that was it. No-one showed up to even look at the film. A real crime happens and they can't be bothered. I guess I just needed to vent.
...good vent. Thanks for sharing. I hope they are paying attention to this type of publicity. I'm hearing more and more of people getting pulled over for no good reason, yes even when asked why the cop shrugs his shoulders, hops in his car and drives away. Oh ya, that dude just bought crack across the street but lets go snoop around the regular joes. Chris
Simple. Way too many young cops that are bored with nothing better to do than harass those driving cars that even remotely stand out. I feel as if with every passing year, there is more and more police presence in the GTA, specially for traffic police. Sorry, but I have very little respect for police outside of the 416 - nothing much goes on in the suburbs so these "cops" end up abusing people on the roadways to pass time... I am not painting the entire population of officers with the same brush, but it can't be a statistical anomaly if situations with abusive cops turn up again and again even in my personal experience.
Huh, something like this happened to a close friend recently. He had his red F-car parked downtown (legally) and Toronto's finest actually sat there waiting for him to move the car before popping him for a moving violation (front plate). Didn't the officer have anything better to do than sit parked for a few hours waiting for someone to come outside and drive the car? A cousin of mine is OPP; so I have no bias against the officers who actually serve and protect.
Take their info down and make a formal complaint against the officer for harassment. If they are pulling you over without just cause they are abusing their powers. And tell them you are going to complain! And when they tell you are being recorded on video and audio (notice the mike in their breast pocket) pull out your cell and tell them you are recording as well. That's of course if you haven't done anything wrong. Owning a fancy car comes with crap like this. Cops can't give you a ticket for being an ass to them. I ripped a cop a new one last summer for being a complete idiot. Just make sure you don't say anything remotely threatening or harassing. And yes I was recording it.
I dont even wana talk about this. 3 tickets in 1.5 years in stupid laser traps all of offramps. And I am a good boy. They like following loud matte black cars. Piss me off.
Oh I would love to hear it LOL!!! I've witnessed a judge do the same (tear a new one) to a cop on a case my friend was charged with, reason being the cop blatently lied to the judge and the courtroom prior to the video being played, then threw my buddys case out of court. Then whenever we'd see the cop downtown I'd stare at him and he'd turn the other way. He KNEW. Chris
I totally understand what you are talking about that's why I have invested in a a dash-cam Have been pulled over many times just because and after awhile It just gets to the point that it is harassing. They (not all) police car profile you because it an exotic. I owned a muscle car a long time ago and never got pulled over in it but in the Lambos holy ****. The excuses are starting to get old too "someone called you in" - "you in a hurry" haha!! amazingly I never get a ticket for these excuses, weird eh? Dash-cam is IMO a good way to go, besides never know when your going to catch that exciting moment on the dash-cam
I have been driving for over 25 yrs, and a Ferrari for 12 .... And aside from one accident (old man had a heart attack and almost head on collisioned me) and 2 speeding tickets ,I have never had issues with the police on the road ..and I used to drive on average 27,000kms a year ...now I drive less 20,000 Kms. I always wondered when I hear these stories , WHY ...and what triggers this for more people than others ..... Is it driving style ? Time and place ? Sticker on the plates expired ? It can't be just luck that some get pulled over constantly...and others , never. Has to be something.
There are thefts, beatings, assults that go on every day and i get pulled over for not having the front plates on my car It must boil down to envy. Cop probably wanted to get a closer look at the car, stuff like that. Some do have a supriority complex and do it just cause they can -.-
Ive driven on southern Ontario roads for over 50 years.,Triumphs and Mustangs in my younger years,Porshes Astons and Ferraris when older. I fell there has definitly been a difference in Police behavior over this time. Cops were more inclined to warn or ignore minor issues years ago, now they are more likely to ticket.I feel before their behaviour was more mature, now there are too many youg guys with not enough to do and too much testosterone. Our roads are way over policed especially in York region. Too much Policing on the roads, not enough to stop real criminal activity. Why? No revenue from catching criminals, lots from motorists. Also criminals often fight back, motorists dont. With exceptions, many cops are cowards.Look at their behaviour when they get a scrape in a tussle-off to the hospital for medical care which usually amounts to nothing( I know this being a doctor). Making them very well paid with incredible union benefits doesnt help.If actally charged under the police act, punishment is nothing. But whats the solution? It would be nice to have some thought on this matter.
It's been mentioned a few times about younger law enforcement....hope we don't have this issue with younger nurses, ambulance attendees, fire fighters....cause then we are all screwed.
be thankful you dont live in Barrie... pulled over 7 times last year...no ticket issued Drove through 4 OPP ride checks last year with the same car and only got thumbs up from the officers....go figure. beev
I still have the record for pull overs in the first month of ownership: 87. In a Month. I'm a pro at it now. Probably at around 160ish in the last few years.
Young kid driving a car without metal plates (NY Trip Permit in front windshield; perfectly legal) I even had 3 police cars one time block me in with the cherry on top that was a gun pointed to the side of my head.
Two summers ago I was waiting at a traffic light near my neighborhood - far from a rough part of town - around 12:30 AM after meeting some friends for a late night coffee. Next thing I know, a regular looking caravan comes to a screeching halt next to me. Two civilian looking individuals jump right out, guns pointed at me and demand I shut off the car and get out. I thought I was getting car jacked until one of them pulled out the badge. They tore apart my car looking for God knows what, and had me pinned against my trunk. Then threatened to charge/arrest me with bogus **** unless, and I quote, "give us something and we'll work out a deal." They asked if there was anything in the car they should know about, "a gun, a knife, some weed or coke?" Ridiculous. Those that know me, know that I am far from looking like anyone remotely connected to that kind of crap. I was far too confused and worried at this point, thinking they might stash something in my car while going through it; it honestly seemed plausible considering what was going on. After staring at me for a few minutes they told me to get back in the car, literally threw my wallet in my face and told me to have a good night. W. T. F. I wish I had some sort of identifying info. Those crooked bastards broke countless codes of conduct that night. I probably could have sued for a lot of cash had I anything to work from. Even spoke to a lawyer and had a family friend who is on the force run my plates and license info to see if anything was in the system - nope. In short, I loathe and despite 99% of cops out there. Zero respect or sympathy from me. NONE. The honorable and duty fulfilling ones are like finding a needle in a haystack.
I have had respect for police officers EXCEPT in Barrie. Well one - Kosmo - hes cool....but the majority of barrie cops are recent grads - young punks who think theyre all that. The best story I can share in a nutshell is when a judge reamed out the cop (read: tore the cop a new one) for lying in court and threw my buddys case out of court. After that, I'd make a point of staring at the cop when I'd see him downtown on a bar night. He would just look the other way knowing full well he was uncool. Chris
I can attest to the young nurses and nursing students at NYGH being very good at what they do. I don't think we need to fear them. Gerrit
3.5 days in hospital after prostate surgery. Amazing care, from checkin to checkout. Had a great chat about track events with my surgeon in the OR before the op Nurses were great, always had time for you. And student nurses as well. I don't know about the police, they left me alone so far. Gerrit
Except that management doesn't determine whether nurses have a decent attitude or maintain strict hand sanitation. That is up to the individuals. At NYGH I found both to be excellent. Gerrit
