what kind of price quotes have you guys gotten from the dealership? My Power-Normal warranty expires next month, and they say I'm only eligible for Powertrain warranty, with a quote of $4300, for my '05 F430. Trying to decide if it's worth renewing.
A few years back I want to say you could get for $2,500. Search on it to confirm? If you've had a good car, just make sure everything is up to snuff right away and forget it.
Any warranty for anything, on average, is going to be a bad investment. They have to make a profit on them, or they wouldn't sell them. Question is how confident you are that it's not going to be your car that requires it as opposed to the "other guy's", and how important peace of mind about such things is to you. I extended my warranty for a year during my first year of ownership, figuring that if it behaved flawlessly during my first year, I'd let the warranty expire and just start setting aside some extra cash for potential repairs. If I have a lot of trouble during the first year... well, then I probably get rid of the car when the warranty is up.
Thanks, yeah I'm good with the value of it and peace of mind... I'm more curious as to price quotes if they are overcharging (by how much) or not since it doesn't seem to be standard. I'm leaning towards getting it...
Very well said...if you can afford to self insure, its always a better bet financially....I like the idea of having the warranty the first year of ownership just to test the car out....
My dealer quoted me the same price for the power terrain, my power normal warranty ends in October and am not sure I will renew. Most people will tell you its not worth it.
I have the Power Normal...negotiated it with my car when I bought it. I will not renew it....as most of the things that go wrong, if any, are not covered!
I was recently quoted $4K for a Power warranty (including the warranty inspection). A Power-Cube is more expensive, probably closer to $7K. $4,300 for the Powertrain warranty seems expensive since, IIRC, it covers less equipment than the Power warranty and much less than the Power-Cube warranty.
Power train can be had for $3000 on that model plus the $600 or so for the required inspection. Negotiate...
From the other side of the desk: There are factors that come into play, months in service / months of service left with your factory warranty ( OEM or " Power " ) I will try and scan an image of the current pricing as of July 1, 2009 ( Which is the most current out ) Ferrari sets the pricing , NOT the Dealership. The Dealership DOES get money back from Ferrari for selling the contract, but that's the profit they use to keep the lights on, so to speak. So yeah, you might talk them down and negotiate, but then what? You may have better luck if you are an established client who has all the work done in house, Services, etc... and will more than likely keep doing business with them after buying the contract. ( That way they have some money coming in after you talk them down - LoL ) With this said, I've been a warranty admin for over 12 years, working with ALL kinds of warrantys, extended warranties, and other programs... The best way to enter into any contract is knowing what is and is not covered in advance. Ferrari does a great job of listing it out... its up to the Dealership rep to explain it correctly and clearly and not try to oversell it. With that said, I have a client today with a 2008 Scud... came in for F1 actuator adjustment after an indi shop installed a new clutch. Ends up that it needs the F1 actuator... CP $17,000+ BUT since he has Powertrain warranty... $0.00 Looks like a return on investment if you ask me... I'm happy to help, answer questions, etc if anyone wants or needs... S ( I'll try and scan in pricing in the AM , ASAP )
Steve thanks for taking the time. Appreciate honest answers from the other side. We all can understand the business aspect of it. I personally like the peace of mind which is why I got the warranty and now thinking of renewing.
Steve.....thanks for that info....I bought a CPO car good til the end of this year and while I can certainly "self insure" it I will probably extend it just for piece of mind....I drive it (doubling the mileage to 3400 even in the winter) so the $4300 is piece of mind if something goes wrong....If I don't buy it I'll probably wish I did and vice versa.... Funny thing I usually never buy extended warranties.....bought a $200 dehumidifier from Sears that broke after 6 months....warranty was $60....it already broke and repairs would have been $125....
My Power Cube Warranty is up in 2 months , I have a 08 F430 F1 Coupe with 5100 miles. I was given the following prices from Ferrari of Washington to renew Power Cube warranty-$6500 Power Normal Warranty-$4300 Though I will hate writing the check, I think the piece of mind is worth it. last thing I want to do is to be scared to put miles on my car by not having warranty. Now I just need to make the decision if the power cube is worth the extra $2200 bucks???
Steve, I was wondering if any (all) of these are included in the power-terrain warranty? E-Diff F1 Pump Exhaust Headers Also, is there that much value in power-normal over power-terrain making it worth the additional 1.5-2k investment? Thanks
Hey Ryan, I think that's what I paid for PowerNormal last year. I don't think it's worth the $2200 extra. The real big ticket items really are engine/transmission. I don't think those 3 are covered with engine/transmission (powertrain) warranty.
I think exhaust headers are (should be) covered by the emissions warranty - 8 years on Ferraris, I believe. Jes
Just to be clear, there are 3 levels of coverage out there 1. Power Cube 2. Power ( " Normal " ) 3. Power Train Power Train coverage is limited enough that I will type out it's listed coverage, directly quoted from the " manual ": Power Train is applicable to vehicles between the age of 7 and 9 years Application for Power Train Coverage is flexible and can be purchased anytime after the expiration of the new car limited warranty It is available for 1 year coverage: it is renewable, therefore it can cover up to the 10th year Power Train service contract coevrs only the main parts of the vehicle: Engine and Transmission Therefore, by purchasing different Ferrari Power service, it is possible to cover your Ferrari for a period of up to 10 years. Power Train Coverage is restricted to the following components: ENGINE: crankcase and all internal components, cylinder head(s), and valve unit, oil radiator(s) head gaskets, oil sump and pump, Bosch Motronic ECU's ( oil seals and oil leaks in general are not included ) Mechanical Gearbox: gearbox and differential housing(s), including all internal componants ( oil selas and oil leaks in general are not included ) F1 Gearbox: gearbox and differential housing(s) and all internal components, Power Unit, actuator, ( oil seals and oil leaks in general are not included ) Your Question of is Power " Normal " worth more than " Powertrain " , yes.. as it's coverage is more detailed... PM me your e-mail and I will scan and send you the listed coverage. ( Too much to type out this morning ) S
8/80 in the United States only covers: Engine ECU(s) Catalytic Converters OBD Computer http://www.epa.gov/oms/consumer/warr95fs.txt
