Hey guys, looking at Stradales and was wondering if this is possible, would be too sweet to have the 458 shift speeds in a CS :)

Not really possible due to the DCT transmission vs the single clutch. Although after seeing some threads on Fchat I wouldn't say anything is impossible.

You would be talking about a major project. This isn't like a typical software flash.

Probably cheaper to buy a 458

I guess I don't understand the point. What makes you think the CS shift are that slow in the 1st place? Do you find yourself lagging behind at every shift?

Keep in mind, the Enzo shifts "as fast" as a CS. Those poor bastards really have it tough.........

    Using your chain of thought.........

You think I could get my Lear jet to go as fast as an SR-71?

Wow. Pretty hard to ask a simple question without being called out for how stupid you are. Very constructive.

Paul, we can all get a bit carried away sometimes. I don't think people where trying to make you feel silly.

Really though, the 458/cali double clutch system is a pita imho, sure its a bit faster and smoother but ultimately you pay bigtime for this. For starters it means its twice the price for already expensive clutch repairs in the future and furthermore it weights a lot more too. I personally do not see that as progress.

This is the forum to ask all questions. This usually leads to constructive answers and is always entertaining. If you have a CS, drive a standard 360 (like I have) - then you'll feel better about the speed of your gear changes :)

Thanks Vegas and Trev. Actually, I didn't post the original question, sometimes I just get tired of peoples attitudes on the forum.

A guy asks a simple question, and for some reason, some feel an uncontrollable urge to treat fellow f-chatters like they're complete idiots. Maybe it's their way of making up for their own shortcomings.

Case in point: You both (Vegas and Trev) provided good information without the condescending tone. As you both have shown in your replies, we can help each other out, point out facts, and even disagree, but we can do so respectfully.

The CS & Enzo shifts in 150 ms (State of the art in 2003)

The 430 shifts in 100 ms

The 458 shifts in 60 ms

So it would be "possible" to retrofit a 430 transmission, clutch, bellhousing, TCU computer, wire harness, etc (you would need all these things, at least, to make it work) You would only "gain" 50 ms.

If you had a 430 parts car, it could be done, but I would swap the motor & get the additional hp & torque.

    hmm,

I say by a flood damaged 360, and replace all electronics and engine with a wrecked 430. This was something I contemplated for a fun project.

You can't hook the 430 trans to a 360 block. They are WAY different.

I'm not 100% on this but I beleive the 458/cali clutch is a wet system that shouldn't need to be replaced. Not the same as a typical dry friction plate clutch.

    Hey Porsche Fanatic,

What are you basing your impressions on that the CS's shift times are slow? In comparison to what? Have you driven one already and felt that it was coming up lacking in comparison to another manumatic equipped car you own?

I'm also in the market and looking at both CSs and F430s. As another fchatter politely and discreetly pointed out to me in a PM regarding a statement I made in a thread I started, making assumptions and declarative statements about perceived shortcomings of cars you haven't driven/owned can be a bit presumptuous and a little annoying to those that actually have. I don't think your question was offensive though.

If you really think this is an issue that would affect your enjoyment of the car you'd probably be better off getting something else. A retrofit / engine swap would likely be more trouble than it's worth and would destroy the value of the car, unless you're starting with a car that's already been compromised in some way. For the money you'd end up spending you could just buy an F430 (if you're price shopping), a Scuderia, or even a 458.

THe question you have to answer is, how much money is 90ms worth to you?

But, hey, if you've got unlimited sums to spend and that's your thing, more power to you.
