Hello, As I can't trace any information about a dark blue 308GTB Carb I intend to buy, I wanted your opinion on what seems to be the original color. I took a photo yesterday of the beauty (see bellow) and it appears at numerous places a much lighter blue that the actual car. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/59/couleursxx.jpg/ As I am more of a Porsche guy coming to Ferrari's world, I am amazed not to be able to trace this car original color, nor to find a list and example of 308's color code (Maybe I didn't search at the right place thought). Can anybody help me with this color problem, as I intend (if I buy it) to restore its original color (that blue is Yumm!!!)? Last but not least, the mecanic that is replacing the front lights told me he found some red paint behind the pop-up lights at the front. he seems to think it might be the undercoat color (we can see some red dots on the photo too). Any idea? TIA.
My undercoat is yellow in color. Welcome to Ferrari where NOTHING is as it seems it should be. Pic of the car and year please?
There were several blues eg Azzurro and there's a fine Ferrari color thread here and another elsewhere on the net http://www.ferrari-collection.net/color/ferrari_colors.htm - to be honest I don't understand your photo http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=138205 http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=196141 Everything is here somewhere
It is a Oct 78, and according to the expert (?) an Model year 79. Picture is taken from underneath, near wheel arch. I'll post pictures later.
Welcome to the difference between German cars and Italian cars! I have '77 GTB that is in the early stages of restoration. You can go to Ferrari Classiche for help.
Unless I'm mistaken, I think my car has a paint code sticker under the rear deck lid. Not on your car, I take it?
NO (Surprisingly). The color is not represnted in the VIN or Build Data. But other info is: http://www.ricambiamerica.com/blog/?p=1262 [Link Borrowed Directed to Daniel, a Sponsor].
If I remember correctly when I bought my car I registered to the Ferrari owners club at the Ferrari dealer on a computer in their showroom and the database had my car information about the color.
I found the batch of color from Dinos in this forum : Source : <http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=193769&page=10> My (future?) 308 would apparently be 7th on the first row (should be a Dino Blu Metalizzato 106-A-72). This according to the patches of blue visible on the edges of actual painting.
My car is an October 1978 build, and when I originally registered with Ferrari.com in the "My Ferrari" area, it contained information about the exterior and interior color that was listed when it left the factory. That was very helpful when I was buying the car, although now I can't seem to find it on that site.
Can you tell me how and where you can register? I might be able to ask the actual owner to do it before the sale. What sort of info do you need to register? TIA
All you need is the chassis number. Just go to Ferrari.com and sign up for free under the "Owners" area. I signed up before I took delivery of my Grigio Ferro GTS, and at the time, I recall the website saying that it left the factory in that color. For some reason, a year later, I can't seem to find it on the website.
Also, included in the subscription to the Ferrari Market Letter is an independent service where they list any and all information on a chassis number. All you do is email them with the chassis number and they will provide you with any and all information that they have collected over the past 33 years. I was able to piece together a more complete history of my car, including the fact that the color hasn't been changed and that the paint is still (mostly) original. Even for a $30K-$40K car, the price of a subscription there is worth it... Tons of great information for novices like us.
When I signed up, it listed my car as Nero, although it's red and I think, but not positive, it the original color. Anyway, they seem to have removed that info as I also can't find it there anymore.
That blue is an old Dino color, but it looks pretty nice on the 308GTB, my 20405.. Image Unavailable, Please Login
There is a darker blue than that also, that looks nice on the car, it's underneath my 'now red' 20405..
You guys are thinking of what WAS called a "Heritage Certificate." It required both the VIN and engine serial number to get. If they did not match, you did not get it. The site would not issue it to you (in .pdf). It listed both the interior color data and paint scheme and color data for the car when it left the factory. A tiny little service. It has once again been "taken down (NLA)." Typical Ferrari BS toward owners of older cars.
What I saw wasn't the heritage certificate, didn't they stop those a while ago? The color info just showed up under 'My Car' on the website after my registration was confirmed maybe 4 months ago, then disappeared.
Right, Mark. There was a time we could get Heritage Certificates for older cars and Build Sheets for newer cars. I was fortunate to get these for my 308 and 550 while they were still offered... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
