silly question F40 v. Enzo

    There has to be a greater benefit than cost to switching over. For a lot of people, the driving involvement is the core of the experience. Removing that, without adding anything superior back in, is a net loss for them. They don't care about the driver aids or microsecond shifts because the gain in performance comes at the expense of involvement and feeling of control, which is challenging to maintain at the performance limits. The best electronic systems are unobtrusive, and still allow for plenty of tactile response that leads to an exhilarating experience, even as it maintains a better safety margin while allowing drivers to stay closer to the performance limits. It's not easy to come up with such systems and integrate them into a good package. Ferrari is one of the companies furthest along in this, I think.

    I've had the Enzo and F40 for several years. They are both different cars. I'll take the F40 when I want the "nostalgic" feeling - fast but delayed acceleration - get a good workout with the brakes, steering and shifting. Hoots, whistles, squeaks and rattles that are dialed out in today's cars.

    I'll take the Enzo when I want to feel like I'm flying down the road - much lighter steering, brakes and shifting, instant response - very loud and very fast. More refined than the F40, but that adds to the flying feeling.

    When I take a passenger out in the F40, they usually comment that it's amazing that such an old car can accelerate so quickly. When I take them out in the Enzo, they're usually just scared.

    When I rode in 512blu's F40 the immense acceleration made me giggle like a school girl, kinda like my MR2T that had over 400rwhp, wait and then BAM!! Of course a TT setup has less delay but that can be eliminated by simply keeping in the power band.

    Still looking forward to a ride in an Enzo though.

    Quite well said, Zack.

    It's not that I hate everything new or high-tech (I don't); it's just the fact that I find the different driving experience of the F40 preferable to that of the Enzo. And I can say that without any irony whatsoever.

    I find that Paget blue disc pads hardly squeal at all around town, even when cold. I use a different set of Pagets for track days, but the Paget blue may be OK on the track also.
