I've been going back and forth a few months now looking at photos of both 360's with the stock 5 star rim and the modular rim. Part of me wants to upgrade to the modular but I honestly don't know if I prefer the car with those rims.. it's kind of bothering me at this point. I feel the stock rims of the 360 are designed for the car and match the lines a bit better.. where as the modular rims seem like non factory add ons.. then on the other hand I feel on some 360's they look better with modular rims (especially titanium cars) my car is black.. what do you guys prefer the stock 360 star rim or those modulars?
Personally I like the Modular rims, it updates the look of the car in my opinion. But there are a lot of people that like to keep their car stock. It comes down to what you like best. If you go with after market rims, be sure to keep your stock rims for resale.
Going 19" is imho a major improvement for the 360 looks. As the brakes are relatively small you need a 19" wheel which does not show too much of the brake (unless you want to upgrade this as well). The CS wheel or the 430 optional CS design wheel serve quite well for this purpose. If you are not bothered by too small looking brake discs, the scuderia five double spoke wheel is a good option. The problem with the then optional 2 piece 360 wheel is that it tends to look smaller than the stock starfish wheels - which are not particularly oversized with the 18". Didn't the 575 or the SA a version of the 2 piece wheel - similar to the 360 one - in 19"?
I have the modular 550 Barchetta wheels on my 456M and they look cool, but they are a major PITA to clean. So, I got a stock monolithic set as well. WAY easier to deal with. Something to keep in mind. Cheers, George
I have the modular rims on my 360, which were a factory OEM option. I love them and think they look better than the stock 360 rims. I even decided against putting 430 rims on there to replace them a few years ago as I prefer the original modular ones even to t hose.
The point is the modular rims are "stock" it's a factory OEM option.. I am keeping my car stock by choosing to go from the factory "star" rims to the factory modular rims.. I think I may pull the trigger.. for me it's an asthetic choice, but I can't make up my mind.. I feel the car looks great both ways.. and I am not sure which looks better on the car so I wanted to get some opinions on here since I literally can't make up my mind.. The fact that the "star" rims were specifically designed around the 360's looks and the modular rims were sold as options for other model ferrari's kind of pushes me to keep my rims the way they are. BTW are the modular rims and "star" 360 rims the same size? can I use the same tires?
I prefer the modular wheels. They came with the car. I do not find them hard to keep clean. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'll be one of the dissenting voices here. I have the starfish on my car and prefer them to the modular. The starfish IMHO are a smooth design that compliments the lines of the car. The modular appear to look smaller on the tire with their added lines on the rim. If I were to go up I'd go to challenge or Scud rims.
I agree with VR and would vote to stay with the original rims. They just look cleaner to me and seem to better compliment the body lines of the car.
as stated above: In the 18" realm, you can't go better than the starfish. If you are considering 19" (which can be a major improvement), have a look at the 430 version of the challenge wheel or the scuderia wheels. However: What you say is right in that the 2 piece 360 tend to look nice with silver cars - that is because their disadvantage (which is that they tend to look smaller than the starfish) is not that apparent with silver. All matter of taste of course. Edit: the original Hamann wheel for the 360 is a 19" with nearly the modular design. It looks fantastic. This is just to proof that for the modular design you need 19" to make it work. When it has the same size as the starfish, it does - imho - not come to live.
Ferrari's were never about practicality I think you are asking too much of it Here you can compare Challenge (not CS) wheels directly to modular (I also have stock star wheels for the street car but prefer the modular by a mile). Jes Image Unavailable, Please Login
On the 360, it's either starfish, challenge or scud. To me, challenge is the best. Moat balanced look and bot trying too hard to look modern. Fresh off my iPhone via Tapatalk
I like the starfish wheels better. The modulars look aftermarket and visually appear smaller in diameter. All those fasteners also make for a cleaning nightmare as they capture brake dust in all those little crevices. Just my opinion of course.
I prefer the star versus the modular on silver or gray cars. Here's mine Image Unavailable, Please Login
I like the starfish over modulars as well. But if you are thinking about spending some money I would go and buy some nice aftermarket wheels. I don't think that adding custom wheels will do any harm as long as you pick the right. IMO. It updates the looks by a lot. But if u go 19s or 20's u must lower a little since the gap between the tire and fender will make the car look higher. Heres a pic of my car in titanium silver. Plus if u go aftermarket u can achieve that flushed look. If u go factory u have to use spacers to get that look. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I don't like modular wheels on any car let alone a Ferrari, I'd go the CS everytime but do like the ones above for an after market wheel.
Thanks buddy, when I was first thinking about upgrading my wheels i thought about going with the challenge stradale wheels. I think they look the best when it comes to factory ferrari wheels. It was a little difficult finding a good set and a bit pricey. And since i wasnt planning on selling my starfish set I decided to get the ones that I have now......somewhat stradaleish LOL
The CS wheels look good on the 360. It does update it. I wouldn't go any larger than 19" wheels only bc the rotors will look too small, and the heavier weight will take away from the performance. The 360 should have come with 19" as factory.
